TMW: Cardinale made decision to sack Fonseca and hire Conceicao – the background

The decision to sack Paulo Fonseca came from the very top of the AC Milan chain of command, it has been claimed, with Gerry Cardinale making the call.

This morning, Milan officially announced that they have sacked Fonseca as the head coach following the 1-1 draw with Roma. The build-up to the game had been dominated by rumours suggesting he would be replaced regardless of the result, and they ended up being true.

The speculation from numerous sources also stated that Sergio Conceicao would be named as his successor, and that too looks to be accurate given that the Portuguese is expected at the training complex this afternoon.

According to Marco Conterio of TMW, it was Cardinale himself who decided that a change in head coach was needed, and more specifically that Concecao the main to lead the team forward after Fonseca.

The owner of Milan ‘did not go to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’ regarding the choice and rather intervened directly himself. However, the journalist does not mention if the Swede agreed or disagreed with the decision.

Fonseca leaves Milan after just 200 days and 24 games in charge, with 12 being wins plus six draws and six defeats. Conceicao meanwhile is likely to take charge of the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia.

    1. Yeah their financial gamble was they spend the minimum to make top 4 (or 5 if serie A get the extra spot) thereby getting big UCL revenue with low costs, hence the books are healthy.

Thats all very well in theory but in practise there are 7-8 clubs in Serie A that are trying by various means with a realistic chance to compete for the top 4. Our squad / coach are not as strong as say Inter, where they can have a bad season/ unlucky injuries and still very likely finish top 4.

Perhaps this is the wake up call, more will be revealed in the next 2 mercatos.

      Forza Milan

  1. Right decision, after so many inconsistencies from Fonseca. Conceicao was the best choice then, and, fortunately, he’s available. I hope for better things.

    LOLOLOLOLO…..

Poor Zlatan – “god” himself gets walked over by Gerry and is not even consulted?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣. WTF does Zlatan and Georgio do all day anyways? Give each other back rubs?? GROSS

    What an epic DISASTER

    1. Hahaha that part made me chuckle. I thought Ibra was the boss. I guess Gerry went behind the boss’ back there 😂😂😂
Such a clown show. It would make sense if results were speaking for itself but being braggadocious and not winning is just setting himself up for ridicule

  3. This means that the owner had to take charge because the clowns he placed there to manage the club wouldn’t do anything. The obvious conclusion is that he should fire those clowns too, including Ibra.

    1. Nah but that would mean he made a mistake and egotistical Gerry dont make mistakes. He’s a sport expert after all. The management team that’s there currently is all his doing so they MUST succeed because he’s brilliant like that. Failure would mean admitting firing Maldini was wrong. Don’t you read between the lines? 🤭 🍿

  4. Yes, if Ibra was making the decision Fonseca would stay until the end of season. Did you ever hear Ibra admit to his mistake? Manchild, he isn’t a real man, it will never happen.
