Zlatan Ibrahimovic is reportedly unsure about handing over full powers at AC Milan to Ralf Rangnick.
A week after the defeat against Cagliari, Milan continue to be filled with uncertainty. Gerry Cardinale had promised that within 7-10 days, all the positions would be filled, ones that were vacated after the mass sacking on Monday.

Decision time for Milan
According to Corriere della Sera, the game of musical chairs with regards to managers also impacts Milan. They tried to hire Andoni Iraola but he is now in pole position to coach Liverpool, who sacked Arne Slot. The latter has become a possibility for the Rossoneri, according to reports.
Sources in Belgium spoke of Slot arriving with Ramon Planes as director, formerly of Barcelona. On paper, this would appear to be the preferred solution for Ibrahimovic, who doesn’t seem convinced by Ralf Rangnick as a technical director.
If Gerry Cardinale goes for Rangnick, he would hand over carte blanche to choose the coach, sporting director and chief scout. It is an all-encompassing role that doesn’t fully convince Ibrahimovic, who is eager to influence the decisions.
However, a meeting is scheduled for tomorrow between Rangnick and the Austrian Football Federation, who are interested in renewing his contract. The outcome of the meeting will also reveal much about AC Milan’s future.
A meeting is scheduled for Tuesday between the acting Milan management and Oliver Glasner, fresh from his Conference League success with Crystal Palace. The Austrian coach was Rangnick’s assistant during his time at Red Bull Salzburg. Matthias Jaissle, now at Al Ahli, is another option.

Rangnicks option is the best right now as we have no structure after Maldini was sacked, his solution is just the best to make the engines of AC Milan move again, anything shot may likely be a disaster.
As long as Ibr is there, I cannot see Rangnicks option will happen. Too much ego in Ibr and basically the Rangnicks option is superseeding Ibr.
Personally, I cannot see Milan turn around until it is sold by Redbird. But this year’s failure to qualify ECL means Redbird will not achieve the max valuation and hence won’t sell.
I get this is an aggregator site, but the sheer fact they they are able to aggregate such wildly conflicting stories as “we’re hiring this person now” and “we’re offering full control to Rangnick” is nuts.
When the firings happened so quickly I naively wondered if there might finally be a plan. How stupid of me.
Maybe they have (or had) a plan, hard to know from articles that are trying to exploit a hot topic now. Ideal to make up stories so people click more.
I personally doubted it when I saw who is “in charge” but we’ll see within 10 days.
I have to agree with Ibrahimovic on this one. Rangnick, nice story, but the clubs he worked at are clubs that develop players and sell. I don’t want that for Milan. If he was given full control over youth centre, team and youth recruitment I’d be up for it. To give him full control of 1st team and youth, with his track record of wins (none really) and jobs at mid clubs, big no. Building teams that wins titles and competes in CL and teams that develop young players to make a profit is not the same thing. He is for Atalanta in that type of full control role.
And I know random people will attack this comment, but include in that comment, the titles of teams Rangnick managed or worked at. Also the teams he worked at. See a big club? See titles? A guy that is presented as the messiah couldn’t get a proper job at a big club and he is 67? Ok.
“but the clubs he worked at are clubs that develop players and sell. I don’t want that for Milan.”
Me neither but here we are. It’s the hrandmaster business plan of greaseball Gerry. Selling our prized assets every summer and then bang chest showing profits on books. Cannot wait the day stadium is built and these Wall Street f*cks gtfo of this club.
And Rangnick has better PR than Redbird and Cardinale. He is doing more or less what Atalanta is doing but somehow he is presented as some sort of super genius, the messiah. Just hire they guys from Atalanta lol. They already know the league.
At this rate, they might even sell before the stadium is build.
I am with you your comment appreciated me, I prepared to give Ibrahimovic full control than ragnik because Ibra is eager to saw an old milan, the milan whose dominated European football
That should be the main concern. Its one thing to build up a talent factory like Redbull in smaller leagues (and Bundesliga), another to build up one of the worlds biggest clubs.
We saw how it went for Rangnick at Manchester United.
As much as I hated Slots football this year at Liverpool, he is used to coaching a massive top world club, and he have won with it.
I think the choice of coach and sporting director will tell us alot about Cardinales ambitions for the future:
If he chose Rangnick and Glasner, its clear he want us to be a talent developing club who sells its best players for profit and is content with a top 4 finish and being in the CL.
If he chose Slot and Planes, it points to him wanting to build a team that can dictate games and compete with the best. Slot will not accept sellings his best.
Rangnick’s system is about uity development. Whether the get sold for profit or not is a matter of the needs and philosophy.
Milan could absolutely give Rangnick the reigns, and instead of selling the promising talents, they are kept at the club. That way, Milan save money that theywould otherwise have to spend on new players 👌
At the end of the day, Rangnick will be there to set a structure and revolutionize the youth. He is not someone who himself loves to sell players.
Yes, but like I said, why not hire people that are doing the same thing at Atalanta and know the league? It would be a better move.
Because Serie A sucks and Italian football is on a death bed. Milan needs a complete shakeup, a revolution. Atalanta is is not enough for what Milan needs. Things will just fall back into the same old same old after a while. Knowing the league?? That is actually a negative at this point. Milan needs to develop style and philosophy like they do out in the big European leagues. Something completelyt removed from Serie A’s identity. That will bring Milan way ahead of any other Italian team – F*ck Atalanta
Ragnick, Glasner, Galliani
perfect trio to replace Furlani, Allegri, and Scaroni
Actually, raNgnick would replace tare and moncada, what does he have to do with furlani? Not too much.
How much stakes did ibra buy that made him weild such influence with Cardinale?
If he does not like it, he can sell his stake in redbird or whatever he bought into. Those are some pretty murky waters he got himself into.
40M Euro
I think if cardinale wants milan go like red bull group, he must choose rangnick. He will clean up the toxic environment at milan. This model its for good for milan globally. For modern football club.
Ibrahimovic please make this decision fast alright bring Ramon planes and Arne slot fast before Monday or Tuesday please so Acmilan can talk about other things we don’t need delays at all.
Bring galliani as an advisor and Simone inzaghi with a good sporting technical director and things will move well .other risky option DE rossi. At this time we need a coach that has experience in serial a.
I would like to agree with you in this but I still it what the club want the management and sporting Director will do.. Lipzig want to develop and sell. Milan want to develop a competitive team that will challenge for trophies and make uefa champions league every year. This will be communicate to Rangnick. He won’t just develop players and sell them without cardi concept I guess.
And mind you on the other hand Cardi also want to sell for profit as much as he want competitive team to win trophies
Yes, but his model is not made that you sign world class players to compliment the youngsters, like Barcelona does. So if he picks the manager and the sporting director you think they will suddenly start doing something differently to what he has done for 20+ years? I don’t really see it. If you are right great, but it sounds like wishful thinking.
Real mess for Cardinale. Test of ability and character to get this right.
These people have no idea what they’re doing.
Ibra has been in the middle of the decision making since he was hired and where has that gotten Milan?
His call not to hire Conte. His call on Fonseca and then Conceicao. His call on Tare and Allegri.
This won’t go any better.
Ibra is turning Milan into a friend business. Because if Rangnick arrives then that means his bozo friend Kiroskv has to resign and rightfully so because the primavera team got relegated and our youth project is a failure.
Ibra is not a 50% share holder in Redbird or Milan. He’s more like a 3% shareholder based on the money he invested so there’s no reason for him to think he has that much power to dictate to Cardinale and the other shareholders who Milan should hire.
I mean this guy ego is really crazy. I doubt Cardinale will go against the Ralf Rangnick project and if he does then Milan is doomed to fail and he will have to sell the club.
Rangnick solution is the best option for Milan.
3%? It is more like 0.3%. Redbird owns more than Milan. So Milan is doomed to fail if they don’t hire the glorified guy that isn’t doing what Atalanta is doing? You people are clueless.
*is doing
typo completely changes the meaning.
Bringing Rnagnick in and allowing him to install his system in place would be too functional of an appointment for Gerry and Ibra even if it may not be the right fit for Milan. These guys aren’t capable of even that move.
They will end up with Calvelli as CEO, and a disjointed pair of coach/SD who won’t see eye to eye and the project won’t take off. And all of this while the decent players leave and the club is filled with “fluff” like in the banter years.
There is zero hope for this club heading into next season (that is if they even remember to register the club for it byt the deadline).
lol the last bit there is hilarious. All of what you said is true and I am not holding my breath either. Ibra’s role has only gotten more confusing and worrisome. It seems like he’s technically part owner of Milan but an employee of Redbird? Couldn’t be a worse situation really. I almost believe the rumors that he convinced Cardinale to get rid of Maldini. Every time I see a stupid Zlatan commercial now, it gives me the ick. Part of firing Furlani and the rest of them was to remove incompetence from this club yet it seems we just swapped out one fool for another. I doubt Rangnick comes and I doubt anyone that would be an A rated director/manager will put their rep on the line to enter this circus. The World Cup is going to start and we’ll have no coach, no director, and no direction. The next season is going to be vveeerrrry interesting. If Pulisic has a good World Cup, he could very well request an exit.
What has either Slot or Rnagnick done RECENTLY to warrant hiring either?
Liverpool spent 400M in transfers last year and Slot bombed
Rangnick currently coaches the Austrian national team?
I don’t see Gerry giving full powers to Rangnick and Slot couldn’t develop all that young talent Liverpool paid 400M for – so what is he going to do with a 40-50M net spend budget?
Skeptical of both.
We are such as fkn mess
They spent 480 million €, that’s almost 500 million…
Rangnick reaching the World Cup with Austria is actually a great result. First time in almost 30 years that Austria is represented. They play great football with limited talent at their disposal.
