It has been a difficult couple of weeks for Maignan, in terms of the media spotlight. The Milan captain and goalkeeper first faced criticism for not showing up to Franco Baresi’s funeral, then came under fire for postponing his return from vacation until Sunday 16th.

While all this uproar has brought to the surface the usual talk of potentially wanting to be sold, a strong and clear message is filtering through from the club as per MilanNews: Mike Maignan is not for sale.

The feeling emerging from Casa Milan these days – and this has actually always been the club’s position at other times this summer – is that the management have no intention of selling the former Lille star. The goalkeeper is seen as a key player in Ruben Amorim’s new project.
He is the captain and signed a contract extension until 2031 a few months ago. He proved last season – both for Milan and France – that he’s still one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Moreover, the rumours of Al-Nassr’s interest are wide of the mark.
Milan’s ideas about Maignan are clear. Now they need to convey them to him in person, especially since so much has changed since last season. For these reasons, a meeting between Maignan and Gerry Cardinale is scheduled for next week.
During that summit, the owner will reiterate their confidence in the goalkeeper and captain, as well as explaining his central role in the plans. It will also be a way to listen and engage with the French goalkeeper.
