Cardinale offers message to the fans before Inter-Milan: “It is our duty”

Before the derby, AC Milan’s owner, Gerry Cardinale, spoke to the media, and he offered a message to the AC Milan fanbase about his, and the club’s duty.

In many ways, Cardinale is a controversial figure for Milan. For some, he has taken the club backwards. Others do not see it in the same way. However, the American owner has been on a mission to develop the club in recent years.

The main priority for the RedBird owner is to create a new stadium for Milan, with the goal of ‘doing what the Yankees did‘ – leaving their old, iconic home to a new one with higher revenue opportunities. With the Rossoneri and Inter both deciding against the current San Siro renovation plans, it seems this plan could happen sooner than imagined.

When speaking at the Giornata dello Sport Italiano nel Mondo conference in New York, Cardinale offered a message to the fans, explaining his current aims and an update on how he will communicate.

The fans…

“In America, the person who spends the money to buy the teams is the team owner. In Italy, I think the fans believe that the team is owned by them and we have a job to do to satisfy this concept. But what I’m trying to do, and I’m not getting much help in the Italian ecosystem, is a partnership between all the participants in the value chain: the fans, the local government, the national government, and the capital to build our infrastructure.

“We have the European Championship coming up in 2032. I’m trying to make a stadium in Milan and with that, there should be a wave of improvements throughout Serie A, so that we become more competitive.

A message…

“My message to the fans doesn’t seem to be working, so I would say the message to the fans is that I won’t give you any message until we win. Because I understand that is the only thing you are interested in. But I will do my job and we will do everything we can to win. But win intelligently. And if I do that, we will be long-lived. And we will contribute to the growth of the whole ecosystem, as I believe is our duty.”

  1. A Yankee who started watching football last year thinks he knows football better than us. Leaving a project half-way built is not a good business neither in Italy nor USA… We need final 3 players: RB, CM/CDM, ST

RLC, Bennacer and Terracciano can finance said deals, the latter being a leeway with additional fee for the RB signing, for instance Kayode. If the management has any brain cells left, they can use Pioli card to get good money from Saudi for Bennacer and maybe Origi can also follow as well. EPL team would sign RLC for 20-25M. that’s already a 50-75M budget.

And since we changed to 4-4-2, a player like J.David that can play both Morata and Tammy roles and was coached by Fonseca can be a cheap yet significant boost. so even if you have to spend extra 15M in January you have to spend it, cause in the summer you are getting upto 40M and only player we will sign (if no one leaves) is Tammy for around 20M.

But you will bring 3 players that are U-15 M and take the 40M as your own profit…

    1. “and take the 40M as your own profit…”

Aaaaaand here’s how one admits they know NOTHING about how clubs and their finances go. You REALLY think Cardinale can/could (even if he wanted to) take 40M€ from the club just like that?????? Oh I see you do. 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

      1. He can use that money to build the stadium, which he has to pay from his pocket… so having to pay 40M less for the stadium is 40M in his pocket…

          1. Yeah, Gerry Cardinale is doing wonders for this club.. They should build a statue to honor his achivements. We are so lucky to have an owner of this calibre. Ejecting moneyballs to the left, ejecting moneyballs to the right.

          2. “Yeah, Gerry Cardinale is doing wonders for this club.. They should build a statue to honor his achivements. We are so lucky to have an owner of this calibre. Ejecting moneyballs to the left, ejecting moneyballs to the right.”

Different topic. Nothing to do with my comments.

  2. Without the fans you would hire Lopetegiu.. dumbass. Fans don’t listen because you don’t know how to run Ac Milan.
Milan have always had couple great players in Italian national team.
You turn is to Inter that’s why we dont listen.
You lie about wanting to win and take Milan to former glory. How? We dont have great Italians like our former glory.
You are cheap and in our former glory Berlusconi brought the best or turn them to the best.
I wonder how you gonna bring the best to win and take us to former glory through buying them under 20 mil and give them under 5 mil a year salary.
Jerry Cheapinale is truly a fraud and a clown.

    1. And i think you are a bit of racist. All great teams of Milan for some of us who do remember were build smart and had both Italians and foreigners in there.

If you want just Italians, there are some places that offer houses for 1 Euro, so go there my friend where you belong

      1. Gtfo with this lame cancel woke cr*p. How’s he racist when he said “couple great players in Italian national team” which is true. We certainly lack Italian players and last time I checked this is still an Italian club not some (feel free to call me racist now) yanked up degenerated cheap junk food franchise. At least for now. We also have problems registering new foreign players cause of that.

      2. I think that you maybe using that word incorrectly. Racist, is of a certain race. Like Caucasian, African, Asian and so on. He was saying the core of Milan was Italian first. That’s not racist. That’s Nationalist.

  3. Inters tactics are hard to read man!
Who noticed this funny detail during the game: Acerbi made a run into our box, Bastoni was at left wing and made the cross into the box, that went all the way into the opposite side where Pavard recieved the ball as a right wing.
Thats all 3 of their CBs pulling out an attacking move.

I was like, who are they deffending with???
That is some next level tactics by Inzaghi, no doubt! But Gabia punished them in the end.

    1. Yes, I noticed that too – Bastoni has always done this, that’s why he fits well into a 3CB defence. But the other two I wasn’t expecting to be forward so much – genuinely if you want to see a team that did it before, Sheffield Utd under Chris Wilder used the CBs to move into wing space if the wing backs were covered.

I think this was after Darmian came on, who was quite content sitting back, and Di Marco was covering the other side.

    2. I see, and did it work? Or how did those great jard to read tactics ended up working for them.

Enlighten us please with some wisdom of our tactics

  4. It’s OK not to know the intricacies of Italian ways. One would think Gerry would have done the homework to know what he’s up against. But hey too late for that.

But at this point, don’t double down on the fact that you have so much to learn. Hire people under you that know this league and bureaucracy better that you and know how to navigate it.

  5. At least at Elliott understood they know nothing of running an Italian football club and got proper folks to run things. Result? Planned Scudetto in 5 years won it in 3 years while keeping accounts clean.

Admit you know nothing, sack these bunch of useless egocentric maniacs and hire proper, respected and skilled people to run the show for you.

    1. So Elliott had a plan, and didn’t win a trophy until year 3, yet Cardinale has had 1 season so far and all these crazies are freaking out. By the way in year one they took the team from a 5th place finish to a second place finish. DO they not get a few years to implement their plan?
By the way, all these same people that are screaming hate at the evil, stupid, cheap American ownership were saying the exact same things about Elliot. I was here, I read the comments. They all like to pretend differently now.
These are the same people that after 3 games were screaming that The Scudetto was out of reach and the season was a complete catastrophe. Meanwhile we are now 3 points out of first and tied with Inter in points. Just to show what exaggerated drama queens they all are.

      1. Elliott with M&M in charge took us back from banter era and 7th place to regulars in CL once again winning Scudetto on the road. In 3 years. Then we reached CL semis. They cleaned out accounts. Gerry took over once again well ran club financially and showing promise on sports level as well. But he decided he wanted to write his own story and took a completely different turn with decisions not really to my taste and as seen on most of social platforms, not to the taste of majority of milanisti.

Now, Gerry boy here is in his 3rd year in charge. Will we win Scudetto? I certainly wish so and if we do I will give props as I always do where credit is due. But I won’t shy away from pointing the negatives cause aside from this great big win we desperately needed, there are many. And I don’t fall easily under hype as many here do.

  6. to make serie A better than PL/ LaLiga w/ “made in Italy” concept?
by change 3/4 scudetto squad, short budget + salary cap, buy/ used only non-Italian players & hire bankers to do sporting job.. stfu clown

  7. Ok Mr. Moneyball: the Yankees haven’t won a World Series since 2009, that was 15 YEARS AGO!!!! That was exactly after they built their new Stadium. So I don’t know what you’re trying to say but do yourself a favor, be quiet, because at the moment you open your mouth you make the situation even worse for yourself and you sound more clueless and ignorant.
You talk about italian fans, I dont’ know in what world you live in but sport fans in general are the same all over the world, real sport fans at least. I live in Philadelphia and follow the Eagles, the Phillies and 76ers. The Fans of these teams would booo you, boo the players, the GM, the ownership, if they don’t like what they see. You’re more than welcome to come here and experience that since you’re not that far from Philadelphia. But I suspect that you’re not only clueless about football (soccer) but you’re clueless about any sport in general.
So please do your self a favor and invest in golf or corn hole or be quiet if not: Leave. WE ARE NOT YANKEE FANS AND CAN’T WAIT 15 YEARS FOR A TITLE!!

  8. I appear to have had my post removed? Any particular reason? Martin seems to have been removed as well?

@admin if you’ll explain the yellow card I’ll avoid the behavior in the future.

  9. The following is not a comment on the decisions of Gerry and Co (many of which were questionable at least), just a comment on fans’ unrealistic expectations:

People comparing Berlusconi to Cardinale should take the red pill. Berlusconi laundered his money and spent his own money (earned by god knows how many illegal activities) for his hobbies – hookers, drugs, Milan. He also probably made the average Italian’s life worse than it could have been (which is by default true for all politicians, let alone him).

Cardinale is a well-paid banker (>30 times lower net worth than Berlusconi) that uses the cash of very influential rich people and big corps, to invest and generate profit in return. In that sense, he is de facto not the owner, but the highest ranking manager of many different businesses.

Also on people complaining for the lack of Italians – from the current generation there aren’t many IT nationals who are good enough and aren’t severely overpriced. The new generation seems to have several very promising names, half of which are with our primavera/futuro. Hopefully we manage to break the spell – to keep them in the club and integrate them in the first team.
