Cardinale wants Milan to win but adds: “We also need to qualify for next year’s UCL”

AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale has stressed the importance of qualifying for the next edition of the Champions League.

Milan have found themselves in a rather peculiar situation whereby they are in the final four of the Champions League and would reach the final if they were to beat Inter over two games, but in the league a top four spot is far from guaranteed which would mean they would not even participate in the next edition of the competition.

Cardinale was interviewed by Sportico and he stressed just how important it is that Milan keep competing in the Champions League because of the revenues and exposure it brings.

“My competitive spirit is in circulation and I want to win more than anything else. But from a commercial point of view I don’t lose sight of the fact that we also need to qualify for next year’s Champions League,” he said (via MilanNews).

On the issue of the new stadium, the American businessman explained that Milan are exploring new options, met with local officials and identified several potential areas on which to build the new stadium. A decision will come in the ‘next months’.

  1. STFU Gerry.
Leave the football to the professionals and don’t interfere.

    1. “When you invest in the squad maybe your opinion will mean something”

So… How much have you invested into Milan? How much does your opinion mean?

  2. I hope this translates to: “Pioli will fly away if we don’t qualify”. Others are to blame, of course, but I doubt Maldini is in danger. After all, he screwed up one transfer window. The repeating nature of Pioli’s mistakes should weigh more.

  3. Juventus might still get punished with points. It was confirmed that they were guilty. However it might not be -15 points. Any way this might be a big chance for Milan. Which means we have to win the remaning 4 games.

  4. I really hope this guy finished his job with the stadium project as quickly as possible and resell Milan to a new passionate owner. He clearly doesn’t have the passion for Milan and all sporting results are just number for him.

  5. Well then you should have spent a reasonable amount of $$ in January to make sure CL was secured. Now who knows. Let’s hope. But with a reasonable investment in January we could have brought in a few players to supplement the green and unready CDK and poor form by Origi and injury to Ibra. That was a gamble Gerry that you chose to take so now we will wait and see what happens.
