The AC Milan owner, Gerry Cardinale, took out a page in today’s editions of Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere della Sera to pay tribute to Franco Baresi.

Milan confirmed the passing of Baresi on Friday morning, losing the battle against an illness at the age of 66. The messages and tributes have been pouring in since, which was to be expected given just how important he was not just for Milan, but also the national team.

Today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport dedicated 19 pages to the legendary defender, one of which was taken out by the Milan owner Cardinale. He also took one out in Corriere della Sera, including a message on behalf of himself and the club.

“Today, the Rossoneri family mourns the passing of our great captain, Franco Baresi.

“For generations, Franco embodied the values, character and excellence that define this club.

“Even in the last year, as he faced his greatest challenge, he always stood by AC Milan, silently reminding us what it means to represent these colours.

“Franco’s legacy is profound and will last forever.

“Our thoughts are with his family and all those whose lives he touched,” the message said.

While Cardinale hasn’t been part of Milan’s story for that long, he met Baresi several times after the 2022 takeover, as the No.6 had a role in the Rossoneri organisation.
