ANSA: Cardinale met Yankees and City Football Group board before Man City friendly

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan had their last training session in New York this morning and there was a meeting between the club’s leadership involving Manchester City and the Yankees.

As the club have relayed to us, the squad will travel to Chicago in the afternoon where they will face Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid in the second game of the Soccer Champions Tour on Wednesday night (or the early hours of Thursday morning, European time).

Paulo Fonseca’s side will try to get another positive result after their victory over Manchester City at Yankee Stadium, a game that they edged 3-2 in a five-goal thriller in front of a very good crowd.

Meanwhile, some behind-the-scenes photos from Milan vs. City have emerged, which clearly was much more than a token friendly as part of the tour and carried a more strategic meaning.

Returning to play for the first time since 2012 at the legendary Yankee Stadium, Milan may have felt a bit at home, given the close strategic partnership with the New York Yankees that the RedBird acquisition brought to AC Milan, on whose board Randy Levine, president of the Yankees, sits among the directors.

A closeness of the two most iconic clubs in the world also evidenced by the participation of Hal Steinbrenner, Yankees owner, and Randy Levine, in Gerry Cardinale’s welcome to the Manchester City executives as they arrived at the stadium before the game.
