CaughtOffside: Arsenal player came close to Milan move last summer – the details

By Euan Burns -

Arsenal youngster Reiss Nelson came close to joining AC Milan in the summer transfer window and he will still be available when the 2024 window opens.

As has been reported by Caught Offside, Nelson is on the fringes of the Arsenal and will almost certainly be leaving in the summer, with fellow academy graduates Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith-Rowe potentially leaving as well.

The report claims that Milan came very close to signing Nelson last summer when he was seeking a move, but he ended up signing a new contract with Arsenal and has been a part of the squad for the 23/24 campaign.

The 24-year-old was also attracting serious interest from Brighton and Hove Albion, and that interest remains.

Nelson has played most of his senior football away from Arsenal, with loan spells at Hoffenheim in Germany and Feyenoord in the Netherlands. He has played 14 times in the Premier League this season but they have all been from the bench.

With Nelson predominantly playing on the right wing, Milan would likely need to sell Samuel Chukwueze and bring Nelson in as the backup to Christian Pulisic. The American is certainly the first choice given he has had an incredible first season at the club.

  1. Too early to talk about selling Chuk. He has been showing signs of life. Hopefully he makes it out of the ICU at Milan and gets more minutes.
