CaughtOffside: Man Utd’s chase for Zirkzee ‘intensifying’ as Milan watch on

By Ben Dixon -

As the hours pass, it seems that Manchester United are going to pip AC Milan to the line for Joshua Zirkzee’s signature, in a deeply frustrating turn of events, a report has claimed.

In recent weeks, Zirkzee’s signature has gained much more interest, and Milan have seemingly managed to stay on top of the picking list throughout. Nevertheless, when met with a €15 million commission fee, the train derailed.

Solutions are being attempted to be found, but the chances are slim, given neither the Rossoneri nor Kia Joorabchian wants the number they are offering to be changed.

As Caught Offside (via Milan News) states, the links between the Dutchman and the Red Devils are ‘intensifying’ quickly, and they are getting ‘really close’ to tying the Bologna striker down. Additionally, it is being reported that Dan Ashworth’s involvement in the deal, once he joins Manchester United, will create additional contact with Joorabchian as they aim to finalise a deal.

Of course, there is still time for an outcome to be reached with Milan getting their man, after all, it is the mercato. However, at the current moment, the chances are getting very slim, and it would be expected if any optimism was fading.

  1. Doesn’t sound like Kia at any point wanted to sell Zee to Milan. Seems like the fee would always go up to Ward Milan off. Only as the last option Kia would work with Milan when the PL interest dies off.

We would be wise to move on.

    1. Probably aware that he’ll be second choice at Man Utd and plenty more commissions in the next few years agreeing loans deals and a transfer somewhere else…

      1. The thing is that professional athletes don’t think like random fans, like us. They are competitors, they worked their a$$ to be at that level and they had to beat competition since they’re young. In PL, especially in top clubs like Manchester United, there is a huge turnover every summer. So I guess it’s easy to convince Zirkee that he can have his shot at starting if the current starter doesn’t produce, and as a fierce competitor Zirkee probably thinks he can earn that starting spot. And obviously he would make more money in PL than with Milan.

Also this agent in particular is a guy that convinced Kurzawa to remain at PSG for a lot of money just to warm the bench. He seems to be quite good at convincing players to follow his own interest. Zirkee is young, probably quite influenceable, and certainly grateful to his agent for how his career evolved.

        1. Well apparently Ten Hag wants to play Zirkzee with Hoijland, not sure how that works…whether Bruno is sold….or Rashford goes and the Zirkzee goes out wide. Perhaps and this would impress me, Ten Hag is bringing back a 2 striker formation….

  2. I don’t think Z will move and Bologna will lose out. Man U would’ve closed the deal already if they really thought he was worth as much. The agent used Milan to drive up interests, but it seems the other teams aren’t totally convinced.

  3. I really don’t understand how transfers work, the guys can sign at Milan, play CL and comptete for scudetto while staying in Italy , keeping the same lifestyle and same environment… Or play in a completely lost club with highest ceiling is winning Carabao cup, where management doesn’t mind benching a 40M€ , no CL or anything… I understand money is a big argument but I thought he already accepted our offer so it must be good enough

  4. This is the Redbird way.

Pretend we are interested in players: Zirkzee, Fofana, Wieffers, etc….

Then drag on the negotiations we have no intention of closing, just long enough for a serious club to come in and get the player, always finding excuses: free players want to much wages; free players agents want too much commissions; players with too high transfers; players too old; players don’t fit under our wage cap, etc…… Then we can save face with the fans and says they tried, while we end up with the left overs players like Jovic.

Furlani and Gerry are probably calling up ManU and begging them to take Zirkzee so they can look good lol.

    Brilliant strategy. #Moneyball.

    Good times

  5. If this goes through with United, I just hope there really were hefty commissions involved that made us turn away from the deal and we weren’t just stingy and lowballing.
