AC Milan and Inter are working on building a new stadium but have been stopped in their tracks by bureaucratic issues. In the meantime, they still have to pay a hefty rent to use San Siro each season.
Compared to other top clubs in Europe, Milan and Inter are missing out a lot on stadium revenue especially since they don’t own San Siro. Every year, they pay the city council rent and the revenue is very small when everything is accounted for.
As reported by Calcio e Finanza, analysing the books of the MI Stadio company, Milan and Inter registered revenues of €19.8m in 2021/22 compared to €11.2m in 2020/21. The costs, meanwhile, were €18.7m and €15.2m respectively.
That means the clubs made a loss in 2020/21 and only a small profit last season (does not include ticket revenue). In terms of rent, Milan and Inter paid a total of €8.6m in 2020/21 and €8.5m in 2021/22. The clubs pay €8.5m per season on average based on the last seven seasons.
