CF: Milan and Inter must pay €160k for San Siro protection net – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Inter will have to pay up for the installation of a containment net on the third ring of the San Siro, a report has claimed.

Calcio e Finanza report that the two teams will contribute €160k towards a net being constructed in the top tier because fragments of concrete have come loose. Some sections of the third ring have already been closed because of the safety hazard.

The document reads as follows: “In particular, it noted that in the recent period there had been lesions and detachments of portions of concrete cover from these reinforced concrete elements due to corrosion of the reinforcements and that the portions in the process of detachment had already been promptly removed and the reinforcements had been brushed and passivated.

“For the restoration of all the elements and the rehabilitation of all the damaged and/or detached parts and their safety, the professional proposed a technical solution through a waterproof skim coat complete with fiberglass mesh and the installation of a drip profile, assuming an expense of approximately €400,000.00.

“The proposal was shared during the technical college on 3 August 2023 and the definitive design is currently underway. By email dated 16 October 2023, the representative of the Polytechnic of Milan communicated that, during the annual verification activities of the caps of the heads of the mooring cables of the third tier, the presence of some cracks caused by the corrosion of the irons had been detected.”

As mentioned, the overall cost of the intervention approved by the Council of Milan for the installation of the fall protection net amounts to a total of €160,700.01 (plus VAT). The expense will be paid between Inter and Milan according to the ‘deductible’ procedure referred to in the articles. 4 and 5 of the current agreement for the concession of use and management of San Siro.

The cost of the interventions will be deducted from the rent that each side pays to the Council to use San Siro.

  1. If it is one thing that I appreciate from the current management is that they are serious in their approach to find and build an area for a new stadium.

  2. So the stadium is literally crumbling but the city won’t let the clubs renovate and/or gut it?? While Sala comes out and calls it a mistake for the clubs to move out and build their own stadiums….. right……..

Hang to a crumbling relic that used to be a footballing cathedral… Such an Italian approach.

  3. Then they wonder why the teams don’t want to play in San Siro anymore. 5k seats are already permanently blocked. The capacity is 80k but it is never allowed to go over 75k
