AC Milan would like to be playing in their new San Donato stadium by the 2029/30 season but there is a referendum coming which may cause some serious delays.
As has been reported by Calcio e Finanza (via Calciomercato.com), Milan do not have a clear track towards their new stadium given the local politics of the area.
It still seems that Milan have no interest at all in regenerating the current San Siro, despite Mayor Beppe Sala’s best efforts to come up with a project that both Milan and Inter would be willing to entertain.
The Rossoneri are committed to San Donato, having already purchased the land that they need.
San Donato Mayor Francesco Squeri has given the green light to begin the process of verifying the technical/legal feasibility and economic and financial sustainability with respect to the referendum question.
This is understood to be an analysis of the correct application of technical and legal norms, rules and principles and economic and financial sustainability) which was sent to the municipality on February 8 by representatives of the ‘No Stadium Committee’.
These local residents do not want Milan to move into their area and may get a referendum which will inevitably delay proceedings.
