Following up Gianluigi Donnarumma was never going to be an easy task, but Mike Maignan has risen to the occasion and is now a fan favourite at AC Milan.
This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reports how Milan’s season had many protagonists with leaders like Ibrahimovic and Kjaer absent on the pitch but present with their charisma, while Leao and Giroud have been decisive with their goals.
Maignan meanwhile arrived at the Rossoneri and immediately conquered the San Siro with his saves but above all thanks to his attitude and his personality, and the numbers show just how impressive he has been.
Although he has conceded only 20 goals, his save percentage is the highest in all of Serie A at 80.2%, higher than Handanovic, Ospina and Szczesny. His distribution too has given unpredictable tactical solutions, as seen in the first league match against Sampdoria, when a goal from Brahim Diaz developed from his long ball.
Then there was the return fixture against Sampdoria when he even got an assist for Leao’s goal. Over the course of this season, he has made 840 passes in the league. The charisma, the spirit and the personality that he immediately showed in training with Dida and in the first friendlies made it clear he is a strong player.
It is no coincidence that the Rossoneri’s defensive department conceded 11 fewer goals this year compared to last season, even with big absences.
Fantastic signing. Reward people who want to stay, get rid of those that dont…. sell them, not on a Bosman please,
