CM: Chelsea step up pursuit of forward – Leao’s price tag and latest on renewal

Chelsea are in the market for at least one new forward and they are not scared by AC Milan’s asking price for Rafael Leao, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com report that Armando Broja’s cruciate ligament injury that he sustained in a friendly against Aston Villa means that Chelsea are in the market for a new forward, but probably one in addition to David Datro Fofana who is close to joining from Molde as he is seen as more of a name for the future.

Milan and Chelsea have spoken before about Broja and Hakim Ziyech, but they are expected to speak again about Leao who is very much liked by the London club. He would cost €80m minimum, likely more, but the Blues are ‘not easily frightened’ by such a figure.

Chelsea are getting their January budget in order and in the meantime will wait for new developments related to Leao’s future. Regarding a potential renewal, at the moment there is a gap between the player’s request and the club’s offer, but the Rossoneri could soon go back with a bid of €7m net per season.

Chelsea are following Leao’s situation but are also evaluating other profiles such as Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus and Tammy Abraham of Roma, but they would not exercise their €75m buy-back to sign the English striker.

Chelsea have been linked with the profiles of Joao Felix of Atletico Madrid, Mudryk of Shakhtar Donetsk – for whom Arsenal is currently on pole – and also Cristiano Ronaldo.
