Times: Chelsea hold talks over Milan star with €150m clause – the player is tempted

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan may have to fend off interest from Chelsea who believe that they can sign Rafael Leao this summer, according to a report.

It should be no surprise to learn that Leao is gathering interest from other top clubs in Europe given he was named the Serie A MVP for last season after amassing 11 goals and 8 assists in the league, helping the team end their 11-year Scudetto drought.

According to a report from The Times, Chelsea have begun discussions with Milan over a potential deal for Leao, who is under contract with the Rossoneri until June 2024 meaning he is less than two years from the current deadline.

Leao is also said to be keen on the idea of moving to the Premier League as per the report, but it is also mentioned that Milan built a €150m release into the contract of the Portugal international so they have instant leverage in negotiations.

  1. I think Milan should consider selling for that amount, and go for depay from Barcelona because of club depth, then next summer look for players with great potential

  2. I love all the references to the 150m clause in every article, like any team would pay that amount for him. Excellent player and probably worth nine figures in today’sarket, but he’s not going to fetch 150m even if Milan could sell.

That said, pretty sure this is complete rubbish because they’re about to spend silly money on Anthony Gordon for no obvious reason.

  3. Selling leao is such a debate. I think hes a keeper as he has great potential, shines in some matches, pure speed but at the same time for 150m ig its hard to reject such sum. Hell 150m might be a no brainer specially considering his poor disipline, consistency, and finishing

for 150m we could get Noa + Berardi (and/or good wingers alternatives) and still have around 100m to play with. we could easily reinforce additional cb and/or lb.
with that sum we could really bolster our lineup

That said whts ur thoughts on that

  4. I know many Milan fans get emotional over Rafa and seem to be extra critical when it comes to him, but I would like for us to keep him and he grows with our other young talents.
To build a team I think we all know that continuity is crucial. This stop start of us having to constantly replace our biggest names will eventually come back to bite us.
No matter how wonderful M&M are, we cannot always lose our best players and think they will magically sort it out.
Rafa is our joker, our game changer.
If he leaves then clearly we’ll only be a selling club to Europes elite and I, I’m sure Maldini, Massara and the real fans don’t want us to be mediocre and settle for Scudetto only.
We have experienced multiple champions leagues and we all want to be there again.
But this trend of selling off or losing our best needs to stop. We will be no better than Atalanta… and no disrespect to Gasperini and the club but our DNA is totally different. Just my 2 cents.

  5. You gotta really know the player personality and his will to improve in order to decide to sell him or not. Yes, the player seems lazy and not good at moving without the ball but he’s got crazy potential to be one of the best in the world, I’d hate to imagine what could’ve happened without leao in the last 6 matches last season. so yeah, only Pioli knows the answer to that.

For 150m I’d bring pulisic + center back + maybe try for Messi if he’s not happy in Paris, our players can learn a lot from him.

  6. bit late to sell. once clubs know we’d have cash to spend any potential replacment target price would inflate. besides čelsi just bought sterling, what do they need another lw for?

    1. That’s the main clue about these stories being utter drivel.

Who of the ‘big clubs’ actually needs a LW?

      Madrid have Vinicius Jr

Man City have Grealish and Foden

Man Utd have Rashford and Elanga, he may be an upgrade there?

PSG have M’Bappe and Neymar, maybe he could fit there if Neymar is leaving

      Chelsea have Sterling and Pulisic

Tottenham don’t really play wingers, but have Son and Perisic

Barcelona have about ten, but Fati and Torres mainly

Bayern have Musiala, Mané and Sané and a sensible transfer policy

Juve could do with one, but they can’t afford him

Atletico Madrid or Arsenal? That wouldn’t happen.

  7. It is Good to sell him instead of loosing Him to Zero or Give Him Huge Salary wirth of Paying Four Player’s Salary,While Acmilan Can Sign a Player with Same Characteristics
or Even Better than him and Much More Cheaper than R Leao.
That player is the Number 11 of PSV star.
He is 35 to 40m Euro with cheap Salary.

  8. For 150M€ it’s a no-brainer. For less than 100M€ it’s not as simple. I’d still sell immediately for 100M€ as the signs are worrying – in every aspect. Though I doubt Chelsea would pay such a big figure. They MIGHT make a 70-80M€ offer but not any bigger. Hope I’m wrong.

  9. Player swap of Pulisic, Jorginho, and Ziyech + €30M for Leao. Solves a slew of problems and you can sign Ndicka with the balance of the money.

All three of those players are on their way out of Chelsea anyways and helps fill our holes this late in the transfer window.
