An English journalist has backed AC Milan to sign Fikayo Tomori on a permanent basis from Chelsea and to potentially sell him on for a big gain in the future.
The Milan management could have brought in Tomori earlier, but insisted on lowering the buy-out clause and it ended up at €28m. In January, that clause seemed very high and nearly impossible to exercise for Milan, but now the story is different.
The English centre-back has quickly adapted to Italian football and Stefano Pioli’s system, even benching the Rossoneri’s captain Alessio Romagnoli. It’s clear, therefore, that he has the qualities to become a very good player.
MilanNews spoke to Adam Newson – a reporter for Chelsea on Football.London – and discussed Tomori’s start to life at Milan and in particular what the future holds for him.
“Personally I think Chelsea have made a mistake in inserting the clause in favour of Milan, because I think Tomori has great skills and would be perfect for Tuchel’s three-man defence. However, the Blues have other talented young centre-backs like Marc Guehi, perhaps this influenced Chelsea’s decision on Tomori,” he said.
“Actually, I think €28m is a little bit low for Tomori. He is only 23, he is already an English international and can only improve with experience. His performances so far have been impressive and I understand why Maldini wants to sign him. Moreover, if Tomori stayed with the Rossoneri and played regularly at a good level, in a couple of years he would attract the interests of the Premier League and so Milan could sell him for a much higher amount than what they paid for him.”
