CM: Cherki dazzles for France on the international stage – why Milan may feel regret

Rayan Cherki’s performances are turning heads, and AC Milan have missed out on the chance to potentially sign him.

The UEFA Nations League semi-final between Spain and France has turned into a celebration of football with nine goals and the likes of Yamal  Nico Williams, Pedri, Mbappe Doue and Dembelè entertaining the crowd with every attack.

However, as Calciomercato.com recall, there was another shining star: Rayan Cherki from Lyon. In the 63rd minute with the score at 4-1 for Spain, French coach Deschamps decides to throw the debutant Cherki into the fray and he made a big impact, creating plenty and scoring his first goal.

A regret for Milan?

Cherki’s name has been circulating in the world of football’s elite for at least four years, but only in the last season did he take a big step forward with 12 goals and 20 assists in all competitions.

Geoffrey Moncada knows his talent well, having followed his compatriot since he took his first steps in the Lyon youth sector. Two weeks ago, the Milan director tried to open negotiations with the agents of the 23-year-old but it’s too late now because he has promised himself to Manchester City.

After weeks of careful consideration, Cherki has communicated to Lyon that he wants to leave the club to try a new challenge. The unexpected turn of events has not left the top European clubs indifferent, so much so that Milan were just one of the many teams that tried.

Rayan wants to join up with Pep Guardiola (and Tijjani Reijnders) at Lyon, even if their first bid of £22m was rejected. The feeling is that in the end the deal will be done, to the delight of Guardiola and the regret of Milan, who could have moved a bit earlier.

  1. Just a PR stunt to make it seem we were really after him.

IF we really wanted him we would have started to go after him last summer or this January BEFORE the teams with real actual $$$ (like ManCity) stepped in.

So either we are INCOMPETENT or had NO real intention of ever signing him and paying the high $$$ for this kid. Either way it’s the same old BS. Put out a story AFTER he is already going somewhere else to make it seem to the fans they were actually trying LOL

    We are EMBARRASSING

    1. Well last season you know who was calling the shots. IMO Moncada isn’t as bad some people refer him to. He can spot a talent but it’s not up to him to sanction the purchase. He’s the same guy the spotted Kalulu for free, Mike from Lile, but more often than that management bet on the wrong profile. Remember he pushed for Enzo then Benfica got a staggering fee for him after the world cup. This problem will continue to occur as long as Furlani is calling the shot. The club need a rebranding get, Scaroni and Furlani out and get competent people.

  2. He was up there for grabs his release clause is 25m€ which is rather cheap. Man city and pep went after him initially it was rejected by lyon but then Ryan communicated he wanted to join city so there you go. At 25m he is a steal….while we keep on waiting and waiting for crumbs l…he would have been a direct replacement for tiji…..we never learned our lessons…

  3. Clowns 🤡
Retrgui was 20 mil, we passed
Julian alvarez was 20 mil, we passed
Arda guler was 20 mil, we passed
    #BOZOS

  4. In what year did you get Julian Alvarez’s valuation at 20m?
Was it when he was still in Argentina or at Athletico Madrid?

  5. ….. and we have always been led to believe that moncada is/was a brilliant talent scout!!!!!
Like furlani he is crap and a fool and a clown dressed in gentleman’s clothing. Unless he leaves or is kicked away, there is no hope for the rossoneri.
