Sunday was not a successful day for AC Milan at any level, as the Futuro had their season ended in the play-offs.
Milan Futuro finished fourth in the table which pitted them against Chievo Verona, a team they had already beaten twice in the regular season. Due to the regulations, they knew they needed to win inside 120 minutes, as their hosts had the ‘advantage’.

The result hung in the balance until right at the end after a 1-1 draw in normal time. Costa gave Chievo the lead just before the break which left Massimo Oddo’s side with a mountain to climb, but Sardo equalised early in the second half. It finished level, giving Milan an extra 30 minutes to try find a winner.
Yellow and red cards started flying towards the end of what was a very intense and at times heated game, then right at the end of extra-time the hosts were given a penalty for a foul on the break. Costantino made no mistake and Chievo will play Casatese Merate in the play-off final.
Another season in Serie D therefore beckons for the Futuro after their 2024-25 relegation, also via the cruel method of the play-offs. That is of course unless there is a surprise repechage and a chance to jump back into Serie C, but even then they may decline the opportunity.
