CIES: Donnarumma the youngest in Europe to reach 100 league appearances

By Isak Möller -

Ever since making his debut for AC Milan back in 2015, Gianluigi Donnarumma has been an important player for the Rossoneri. He quickly cemented his spot between the sticks and has never looked back since.

Introduced to the first team by Sinisa Mihajlovic, he took his opportunity straight away. It’s not exactly a secret that the numbers of the young goalkeeper are extraordinary, but today they were confirmed by the CIES Football Observatory in their weekly article.

In fact, Donnarumma is the youngest player in the top five European leagues to have reached 100 league appearances. When he reached the milestone, on April 15 (2018) during Milan-Napoli, he was just 19.17-years-old. This is certainly remarkable.

The Italian international is ahead of the likes of Eden Hazard (20.27) Kylian Mbappé (20.72) on this front, in addition to several other players. Alban Lafont (19.65) is closest to Donnarumma, but for now the latter remains untouchable at the top.
