GdS: Cisse and Moreira battling in Saelemaekers’ absence – Amorim considering options

With Alexis Saelemaekers out of the game against Sassuolo, it will be a battle between two at AC Milan in attacking midfield.

Although a lot of his attacking options are away from Milanello currently, Ruben Amorim is now facing a difficult task. He must select someone to partner Christian Pulisic against Sassuolo and his first choice is now out.

A battle between two

This morning’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has looked at the ballot facing Amorim between two of his most consistent players. On one side he has big-money signing Diego Moreira, then on the other he has the starlet Alphadjo Cisse.

Starting with the Italian, he was a revelation at the start of the season, scoring twice in Turin against Torino and Juventus. However, his failure to contribute in Rome allowed Moreira the chance to establish himself – and he did with two goals.

Then, against Lecce, it was the Belgian who was given the chance again, and he grabbed another goal.

In the international break, both have impressed and will take to the field on October 5th before returning for the game against Sassuolo on October 10. So, they’re on equal terms, really. However, if anyone is to have the advantage, it may be Cisse.

Moreira has the ‘advantage of enthusiasm and goals’, and the report questions whether the winner of the battle could secure a ‘starring role’ from here on out… it’s certainly a big opportunity for one of them.

  1. There should be no battle at all, Moreira should play as a left wing-back, not a RWB or a AMRC, only / just this and then there would be room for Cisse as well.

    Maignan- Gila, KDW, Pavlovic- Alexis, Musah,
    Rabiot, Moreira- Chukwueze, Pulisic- Ramos;
    (3-4-2-1)

    Torriani- Tomori, Gabbia, Diawara, Bartesaghi- Comotto, Modric, Ardon- Hutchinson, Cisse- Camarda;
    (4-3-2-1)

    Terracciano, Terracciano, Bondo, Estupinan, Loftus.

  3. If Cisse gets to the end of this season and he’s played 2000 minutes he can be very proud of himself. Very very rare talents join big clubs at 18/19 and go straight into a regular starter role; him suddenly being benched is no indictment on his ability at all.

    If the fight really is between him and Moreira for one spot, then right now there’s no real fight – it’s Moreira. Cisse will have plenty of chances to continue to shine and more importantly, grow.

    1. Even worse. Imagine a 60M player who has 3 goals in 4 attempts on the bench behind a wingback being played as an AM? Only our nitwit coach. He also sent Athekame away.

      1. I think proper coaching and training has more impact on developing than playing 90min once a week. Of course he should get his minutes but can we risk a half-developed talent who still has to learn a lot as a fixed starter?

    1. Because he wants to leave and rest some options so they could come off the bench and change the situation. In other words, guy’s an idiot. If anything, it should actually be the other way around because Pulisic is ambipedal and can play both on the right and on the left while RLC can play on the right but it makes more sense (well, to me, at least) to start him as a left AMC.

        1. I am aware of that. I wouldn’t even worry about this because I don’t want RLC to play at all, it’s just that I think Pulisic is more adjustable.

  4. Pulisic and Cisse should be the choice to the left and Moreira and Hutchinson the choice to the right in the attacking midfield.

    Then again, if we play 4-2-3-1 like against Lecce, the right attacking midfielder will be more of a right winger, and Chuckwueze have that position locked down, so then its more likely Cisse play as left winger, as Saelemaekers did against Lecce, and Pulicis in a free central role.

    Moreira as left back would be nice to see then.

    1. Chukwueze and Hutchinson, not Mo and Hutch. Saelemaekers should be our RWB, he could cover Chukwueze just like Pulisic could cover for Moreira because he has that high working-rate and back_tracks a lot even though he is a AMC. Simply a matter of balance.
