Clear path for AC Milan as Mourinho rules out Spurs move for Ibrahimovic

By Oliver Fisher -

New Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has ruled out a move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the January transfer window despite speculation suggesting otherwise.

Ibrahimovic continues to be linked with a move back to the Rossoneri, and we reported on Thursday that the striker has stopped discussions with other clubs as he wishes to return after talks with Zvonomir Boban.

However, a report from the Telegraph claimed that Milan are not alone in their pursuit, as Mourinho wishes to reunite with Ibrahimovic in north London with the pair having worked together at both Inter and Manchester United.

Mourinho was confirmed as the Premier League side’s new boss last Wednesday, replacing Mauricio Pochettino who had been at the helm for over five years.

However, the Portuguese has now addressed that speculation by denying that Spurs will make a move to sign Ibrahimovic in the upcoming transfer window.

“I would say we have one of the top strikers in England,” Mourinho told reporters ahead of Tottenham’s Champions League clash against Olympiacos (via Metro).

“It doesn’t make any sense of a striker of Zlatan’s dimension to come to a club where we have Harry Kane.”
