GdS: Club Brugge want €30m for De Ketelaere – why Elliott may approve the signing

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are big admirers of Charles De Ketelaere and Elliott Management could approve a big investment on him, a report claims.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), everyone at Milan is convinced that Elliott’s policy of investing in young talent is paying off and that is why Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are eyeing further players that fit that descriptions.

Among them there is Charles De Ketelaere, a star of Club Brugge and now the Belgian national team. He fits perfectly with the club’s strategy as he is 21 years old and has the qualities to become a top-tier player, with Milan believing that he could grow further and establish himself in a decidedly more difficult and competitive league than the Belgian one.

He is an attacking midfielder by profession but given he is 1.92m tall De Ketelaere can also play as a centre-forward. Over the course of his career he has scored 24 goals and has 19 assists in 112 appearances , which means he has a cost above €30m, but given his profile Elliott could therefore give the approval.

  1. He played mostly CF this season, thats why he has good stats, brahim would have 15 goals in belgium league,we need better player for AM,even dino hotić has 7 goals and 11 assists in that joke league.he is good for max 10 mil dont even talk about 30,u play in belgium not in premier league man

    1. KdB had 17 goals in 113 appearances in Belgian league, stats don’t say nothing. Charles shows glimpses having the potential to become a worldclass player.

          1. Kaka scored 47 goals out of 125 games with Sao Paolo before joining Milan. And also, Kaka is not a CF. So the difference is almost night and day already with Kaka. Yet Kaka came with 8.5mil euro transfer fees. Even when you considering inflation and bla bla bla, that 8.5 mil euro in 2003 is still way less than 30 mil euro in 2022.

30 mil is overpriced for a player with this calibre

          2. Jan Cruuk, I am not comparing Charles with Kaka. My point is that every transfer is a gamble. Calibre Kaka would be 60mil minimum these days. Also never said that 30mil would be granted for Charles. But if you could get him for around 25 including bonuses, facing all the competition in these crazy times, it might turn out to be a great bet. He has characteristics which are hard to find, so you will pay for it. Simple.

      1. Exactly, so many examples.. Milenkovic Savic came from Genk, Pericic played in belgian second division. Doesn’t matter were you come from.

  2. I am going to continue to comment and say the same thing on every single article about Chuck: HE IS THE NEXT BIG THING. For those of you sleeping on the Belgian league, it is, much like the Dutch league, a factory for young talent. I’ve watched a lot of Club Brugge the past couple seasons (thanks, ESPN+) and he is well beyond his years in movement off-the-ball which is one of the main reasons he is so dangerous. He has all the playmaking tools to be a pure #10 but because of his size he has been playing higher up the field. I don’t think that matters much though for Milan–either pair him with another ST/CF and let him drop deeper to collect the ball and facilitate, or let him play as a pure #10 that gets into the box whenever possible. Gotta take advantage of that 6’4″ frame!

TLDR: BUY THIS KID AT ALL COSTS WHILE HE’S STILL CHEAP!!!

  3. Great signing if happens, very talented player and has a bright future. Also, very good for Serie A. He plays in the Belgian league, so what?? Many other great players have played there in their early years too; I suppose Salah played in Egypt at some point and Lewandowski in Poland 🙄 If Milan had the money to pay for important players in the premier league or La Liga, we would still be playing champions league now. Milan has to find a way to improve the team and that way has to be financially sustainable for the club too; signing players like CDK now would be a great way to do that.
