CM: Adli wants to convince Pioli in preseason as Leao sends social media message

By Oliver Fisher -

Yacine Adli is the subject of some mystery this summer after a season in which he didn’t get many opportunities from Stefano Pioli.

According to Calciomercato.com, Adli was one of the first to show up at Milanello yesterday for the start of the preseason and he has a desire for redemption after a season in which he played a total of 140 minutes.

On his Instagram profile, Adli posted a photo with the caption ‘Back to work’ with red and black hearts. Rafael Leao replied: “Show who you are”.

That’s what the former Bordeaux start is hoping for. The Franco-Algerian wants to have more chances and he will work hard to try and get into the rotations and convince head coach Stefano Pioli, but at the moment he is fighting an uphill battle.

Pioli has said that Adli can leave and Milan are open to selling him to raise cash, having paid around €10m to sign him from Ligue 1. Even a loan departure cannot be ruled out at present, with Salernitana having come forward.

At the moment everything is on pause, but Adli’s will is clear: he wants to stay at Milan and will do everything to succeed.

  1. Why Pioli didn’t use him much last season is an international mystery….. I hope he gets more opportunities this season.

  2. I’ve always liked this kid and now I like him even more. But are we about to get a repeat of last year when Adli tore it up in preseason and then had to sit on the sidelines watching CDK gift goalscoring opportunities to the opposition?

    1. He was basically the best player in pre-season. Truly a mystery why he didn’t get his chances in Serie A. Unlike certain Belgian… Or actually two Belgians who managed to score whopping 2 goals combined in ~70 matches.

  3. He should have more time last year because the management knows that Diaz is going back to Madrid but pioli never gives Adili chance to prove himself

  4. I wonder how this guy ended up at the bench.the guy is very talented I hope he stays he has a great potentials but pioli doesn’t like him.

  5. This was the biggest mystery of last season. He looked good every time he had a chance to play. I think he probably just doesn’t run enough for Pioli. Pioli values work rate over skill, which is why he loves players like Krunic and Saelemakers even tho they offer very little offensively and creatively.

    1. I think this might have been the reason why Maldini wanted Pirlo. It might be to pull out the potential in this kid.

  6. Pls give this kid a chance. Don’t sell for a measly 8M which will not get us a replacement. Give him a real opportunity first. Kid has the talent and wants to be a Milanista. All young players need time to learn the defensive aspect of the position doesn’t happen overnight and with only 140min of game time.

    1. I rarely agree with Juro but only an idiot would disagree here. If CDK got ~40 chances to prove himself last season maybe Adli should have been given more than 100 minutes too…

  7. I am more intrigued by Leao’s words to Adli.

First, I like it because it shows Leao is taking up leadership responsibility towards his team mates.

I’m a bit curious though. Is there a belief among the players – okay, since it’s just Leao speaking here – is there a belief that Adli actually deserves more and should have gotten more chances? Or is just Leao being a leader to encourage and motivate Adli?

Whichever way, I do hope Adli gets to shine. The excuse of him being weak doesn’t cut it, when you look at the fact that Brahim Diaz isn’t even bigger than him.

    Good luck Adli. Forza Milan.

  8. Coach surely knows better, he still treats them well equally, but all comes to the tactics implemented, versatility and intelligence of the player is key.

  9. Adli u r not alone, do your best, show them what u made of… I said fuck to pioli after letting you rotten on bench last season…, Wish we could get another head coach with more visibility and game approach

  10. Got a genius idea for replacing kessie. Buy kessie. Apparently barcelona willing to part with him for 15 mil. Paying for a player u let leave for free is indeed unsavory but the management can just blame Maldini. Do u guys remember how physically strong kessie even was he could hold off an entire midfield with just his arm
