CM: Arsenal unwilling to part ways with defender despite Milan and Roma interest

By Isak Möller -

The former Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior has ended up on AC Milan’s radar as a result of Pierre Kalulu’s injury. However, according to a report, Arsenal are unwilling to part ways with the centre-back in the middle of the season.

Kalulu sustained a serious injury in Milan’s 2-2 draw against Napoli and will be back in four months. The Rossoneri management, therefore, are looking into the possibility of signing a centre-back in January. It most likely won’t be Kiwior, though.

According to Calciomercato.com, Arsenal are unwilling to discuss any sort of operation involving Kiwior at the moment. The 23-year-old has played just 368 minutes at the start of this season but the Gunners have made their stance clear to Milan and Roma.

The Giallorossi had even proposed a loan move, but it was rejected immediately. The two Italian clubs will thus have to look elsewhere in their respective search for a centre-back. The Rossoneri have quite a few names on their wish list, but a January move is also tough to get over the line.

Stefano Pioli is currently relying on Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori, which certainly isn’t a bad pairing. The hope is that Simon Kjaer will be back in good condition soon as well, which would make the situation more sustainable.

  1. Arsenal have no academy level defenders that will make the grade, which is a huge worry. Time for Edu to use his south American connections in recruiting oversea academy talent. We have not had any young overseas world class talent since Fabrigas. Arsenal need to invest and spread the net further than England in recruiting young academy talent, especially defenders. Until then, they need to keep their defenders, even the squad back up players as their is no young defenders making the step up at present.
