CM: Arsenal’s plans for Xhaka revealed amid links with AC Milan move

By Oliver Fisher -

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is not closing in on a move to AC Milan despite reports suggesting otherwise, it has been claimed.

The Swiss international has essentially been frozen out since he stormed off the field and down the tunnel after being substituted in last month’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace.

Unai Emery then revealed Xhaka would not be part of the squad to face Leicester over the weekend as the midfielder chose to rule himself out of the game, leading to speculation from a number of sources suggesting his career with the Gunners is over.

Swiss outlet RSI then claimed earlier on Monday that Xhaka is looking for a house in Milano as he is closing in on a move to the Rossoneri.

According to an update from Calciomercato.com however, Arsenal have not given up hope of repairing relations with Xhaka, who they consider to be ‘an important player for the club both in terms of experience and belonging and of contribution on the field’.

The outlet continues by stating that no formal offer has yet arrived for the 27-year-old, and that a meeting is set to be held with his agent to discuss what to do next.

Milan for their part are ‘remaining vigilant and ready to seize every opportunity that may present itself in the January market’, however a ‘growing’ Ismael Bennacer should not be forgotten.
