CM: Bayern Munich hold key advantage over Milan and Napoli in Zirkzee race

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are looking for a new No.9 and Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee has been linked with the Rossoneri in recent months. However, they could face tough competition from Bayern Munich, as a report claims.

Zirkzee left Bayern Munich to join Bologna in the summer of 2022, with the Italian side paying around €8m for his services. It was money well spent, with the Dutchman bagging eight goals and four assists so far this season after a modest first year.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan and Napoli are closely following the 22-year-old’s progress but in the summer, they could face tough competition from Bayern Munich. When the latter sold the player, they added a percentage on the future capital gain, as well as a right of first refusal.

All of this means that the German side can get Zirkzee for less money than the competitors. There is also a €40m release clause in the striker’s contract, although that is a high price to pay for someone who has had just one good season (not even that).

In short, a lot will depend on Bayern Munich’s strategy and whether they need Zirkzee or not. Milan are keeping tabs on the situation and also have other No.9 targets on their wish list, such as Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy.

  1. Advantage over Milan? Who said Milan are even in the race? These yanks are not that crazy to splash 40 millions on a (by now) half season wonder. At least I hope so. I’d rather see them splash on a proper DM.

  2. We are not in this race. Stop reporting that we are. The management won’t spend over 20m for any player. We’re out of CL and next year is a big question mark. Will we end up in CL places? Will Pioli still be coach? …

  3. Why couldnt we get him in the summer for 8mil ? What were our scouts doing ? So far Moncada who i thought was a great scout has compleatly failed in Milan. This guy is a fraud. Didnt brought one player for which you can say ya that it was a real gem. It seems he only got lucky with Mbape in France. I guess when all he does is just go for african/french players, eventualy you will get one hit out of so many misses.

    1. He wasn’t the one who discovered MBappe. Its why he never mentions him when asked what are his best discoveries..you’d think the world’s best player would be first to come out of his mouth. By the time Monaco signed him everyone already knew about him..the first real big club to approach him was Chelsea (coached by Ancelotti at the time)

      1. Moncada didn’t even mention Leao, Theo, Mike or Tonali lol. Same reason – because he didn’t discover any of them either. However, he proudly said Bakayoko lol.

40M? No way we pay that for any player plus Bayern aren’t stupid. They have the money to buy him back for 40M and resell him for 60M if they wish or keep him as the heir to Kane.

  4. The only way this kid gets signed is if:

    1. We secure CL
    2. Guirassy goes to another club (cheaper option)
    3. We secure Motta for the summer
    4. Motta specifically asks for Zee.

Pioli isn’t even in the equation here.
