CM: Benfica starlet’s call to Rafael Leao and why Milan move broke down

By Isak Möller -

During the January transfer window, AC Milan were heavily linked with Florentino Ibrain Morris Luis, more commonly known as Florentino Luis. In fact, he seemed to be just one step away from the Rossoneri.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com’s Daniele Longo, Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara were ready to bet on the 20-year-old midfielder. In January, several meetings took place with his agent and the ‘yes’ was found.

Florentino called his compatriot Rafael Leao to get more information about the team, the city of Milan and the lifestyle. The obstacle, however, was Benfica who at the end of a long negotiation decided not to accept the paid two-year loan with an option to buy.

For the summer, the midfielder remains on the Rossoneri’s wish list. Chief scout Geoffrey Moncada knows the player well and has always provided positive reports. The issue, however, remains the price tag as Benfica want close to €45m.
