CM: Bennacer’s long-term injury causes summer reflections – two signings may be needed

Ismael Bennacer’s absence is one that will be heavily felt by AC Milan and could even force reflections in view of the summer window, a report claims.

According to a report from Calciomercato.com, Bennacer’s injury does not just risk damaging Milan’s immediate hopes of a semi-final comeback and a top four finish, because he could be out for up to four months depending on the assessments after the arthroscopic surgery.

With Sandro Tonali and Rade Krunic having already been forced to work overtime, they will continue to do so between now and early June while the likes of Tommaso Pobega and Aster Vranckx should now become a bigger part of the rotations.

Bennacer’s probable long absence is a big problem also in consideration of the planning for the future season and the management may decide invest a substantial part of the budget to purchase one or two midfielders.

An alternative to the Algerian could be sought, therefore a profile more geared towards build-up and directing play, in addition to a more physical and dynamic player who would fill the void created by Franck Kessie’s exit and the failure to replace him.

Vranckx could remain because there is the chance of a swap deal involving Ante Rebic who would go to Wolfsburg where his compatriot Niko Kovac wants him, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek of Chelsea is also admired.
