CM: Bennacer’s release clause being discussed as Milan ‘totally change strategy’ over renewals

AC Milan are expected a response from Ismael Bennacer soon as talks are ongoing over the renewal of his contract, according to a report.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu cases have made Milan ‘totally change strategy’ when it comes to the renewals of their most important players. Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara know that the continuity of the project depends on keeping the core intact, and that is why they are moving pre-emptively to negotiation with three players whose deals expire in 2024: Theo Hernandez, Bennacer, Krunic and Leão. On the Algerian midfielder, there is cautious optimism because there is a common desire to continue together, and the idea of an extension until 2026 pleases all parties. Bennacer currently earns a salary just over €1.5m net per season and a pay rise is on the cards as a reward.

Negotiations are well underway and an important theme of the discussion also concerns the release clause in his contract which is set at €50m. Maldini and Massara would prefer to abolish it or alternatively raise it, and a response from the player is expected in the next few days.
