CM: Bologna’s impressive form intensifies Milan’s interest in Thiago Motta

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan’s reported interest in Bologna coach Thiago Motta is only getting more intense as the Rossoblu continue to impress in Serie A.

Bologna moved up to sixth with their Monday night win over Torino and, as reported by Calciomercato.com, Motta is getting a lot of attention for his coaching exploits at the Stadio Renato dall’Ara.

AS Roma are said to be very keen on the Italian coach as they plan for a future without Jose Mourinho, but Milan are also watching him very closely in the knowledge that Stefano Pioli’s future always seems slightly uncertain.

There is no suggestion at all that Milan are looking to part ways with Pioli in the immediate future, but the season has been inconsistent so far and were Milan to drop out of the Champions League, the pressure on Pioli would start to grow.

All clubs keep their eyes on other coaches in case a change becomes necessary and Motta is admired by Milan right now.

  1. I don’t think it’s wise to negotiate with an interista as our future manager, but I also believe he can do very well with the team. Can he do better than what Pioli did with the same squad? Bologna’s recruitment is main reason for his success, they have Atalanta’s ex-sporting director who I believe is one of the best at his job.
My opinion would be Arne Slot who has done bits with limited resources. His release clause is also very low, and I heard he is interested in getting a job at a Serie A club. But if we are looking at a manager who can speak Italian there would be Nice manager, Italiano or Monza manager, These are the realistic options which we can get.

    1. “I don’t think it’s wise to negotiate with an interista as our future manager”

Those guys are professionals. Why wouldn’t he give his 100% to the club that puts their fate in his hands? Did Inter make a mistake by hiring a Lazio-legend as their coach? I dunno, you tell me. 🙂

      1. Oh, I can evaluate my assessment. You see I don’t think if Inter doesn’t win a trophy which is likely because they are known to bottle good leads. They will definitely sack Inzaghi, so who do you think they will be interested in hiring? We aren’t the only one interested in Motta.

    2. That “Nice manager” is Francesco Farioli, and he is really interesting. Motta is impressing. I’m on the fence about Italiano. I think he would be a version of Pioli, but maybe I think that because they look the same. I don’t think Palladino (Monza) would be a good fit, as he plays with a 3-5-2/5-3-2, which would mean the end of our wingers, an area in which we’ve made a big effort over the last few seasons (including the Leao renewal saga). We’d have to undergo another summer revolution, getting rid of them, bringing in a second striker (in addition to the no. 9 we’re missing), more CMs and more CBs. For this same reason I’m against Conte. Also, I think this is Sarri’s last season with Lazio, so I think he can be added to the list. For me it’s this in order:

      De Zerbi
      Sarri
      Italiano (for the time being)
      Farioli
      Motta
