Bayer Leverkusen rightly drew praise around Europe for their remarkable exploits last season, and there are several players who could have worn the red and black of AC Milan instead.

As Calciomercato.com recall, striker Victor Boniface was proposed to Geoffrey Moncada when he was emerging as a revelation at Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise. He was not yet considered up to the level of a much more demanding environment like that of San Siro by the directors.

The Nigerian thus ended up making the leap from USG to the Bundesliga instead, believing it to be the best place for his growth, and the fact he has amassed 25 goals and 11 assists in 41 games across all competitions suggests it was a good decision, and he was linked again in the summer.

Moncada will certainly also keep a close eye on Amine Adli, having been enchanted by him in 2021 when the Franco-Moroccan player was still wearing the Toulouse shirt. They tried both for him and for Manu Koné, now a Roma player, but neither arrived in the end.

Adli thus moved to Bayer Leverkusen for around €7.5m, then Milan decided to go for another Adli – Yacine – who they paid €8m to sign from Bordeaux and they left him on loan for a year there.

Amine Adli is not a starter in Xabi Alonso’s 3-4-2-1 but he still boasts 21 goals and 22 assists in 122 games, while Yacine has ended up on loan at Fiorentina after struggling to really make much of an impact in his time with the Rossoneri.
