CM: Brahim Diaz’s stay uncertain as Milan plan to open double axis with Jorge Mendes

Even though he is only halfway through his two-year loan spell from Real Madrid, Brahim Diaz’s future remains uncertain heading into the summer.

As per Calciomercato.com, the future of the Spanish playmaker is among the situations that Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara will have to face after returning from their short vacation in Ibiza. Brahim Diaz started well and scored 3 goals in his first 6 league games (all winners), but was stopped by Covid and then never recovered his form.

Stefano Pioli in the end opted to use Franck Kessie and Rade Krunic in the role of attacking midfielder towards the business end of the season, and is awaiting a new signing for that role this summer.

Competition is likely to increase significantly, and while Brahim Diaz is on loan until June 2023 with an option to buy set at €22m (with a buy-back of €27m), that figure is currently considered too high by the Rossoneri management, who have planned a more sizeable investment to sign a player like Charles De Ketelaere.

This therefore raises questions about the role that Diaz could play at Milan next season. Relations with Real Madrid are very good and could also extend to the future of Marco Asensio, who is one of the players identified by Maldini as a potential opportunity.

He recently changes agent to Jorge Mendes, with whom Milan are also negotiating the renewal of Rafael Leao and the possible arrival of Renato Sanches, so the squad could change dramatically Brahim’s stay is far from obvious.
