CM: Brahim passes early Milan tests after summer return but further exams are needed

By Oliver Fisher -

With the lack of a big-name addition for the attacking midfielder role, Brahim Diaz is relishing taking on more responsibility, all with a new number on his back.

Calciomercato.com describes it as the ‘test of 10’ for Brahim who has been called upon to establish more consistency in his performances now he is getting more playing time as an established starter in the current side.

The stats show that last season he actually struggled for opportunities despite making a lot of appearances, because there were only 9 games in which he played for more than 70 minutes, four of which came in the Europa League against Rio Ave, Lille, Sparta Prague and Celtic, and five in Serie A, against Fiorentina (twice), Crotone, Spezia and Cagliari, in addition to the 70 minutes against Juventus in which he scored the opening goal.

In these matches the 21-year-old playmaker scored three goals, proving that he deserves the trust of Stefano Pioli, and now he is repaying the confidence of directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara who committed to a two-year loan with an option to buy (and a buy-back in favour of Real Madrid) but also to giving him an iconic number.

He already has a goal this season having netted the opener at Sampdoria which would end up being the match-winner, and then he certainly had a huge hand in a goal that was given to Rafael Leao as the Portuguese’s shot hit his backside and went in to make it 3-1. The early signs are good, but harder tests are needed to see if Brahim will pass.
