CM: Case closed regarding Theo Hernandez – compromise will be needed in renewal talks

By Ben Dixon -

Before and throughout the summer, Theo Hernandez and his contract were a key talking point for AC Milan, and with no progress being made yet, there needs to be a change. Today, a report has stated that this weekend’s incident does not change the stance of either party, so progress could be made shortly.

The past eight months have been difficult. Since January there have been questions about key players, about managers, and transfers. Now, in September, the issues remain, albeit they are in different contexts.

Theo has not yet extended his deal at the club, and things have only grown more nervy after his comments during the European Championship, Paulo Fonseca has had a torrid introduction to competitive life as Milan’s manager, and there are potentially still questions about the squad.

In addition to this, these issues are interlinking, with questions emerging about the Frenchman’s relationship with the manager, worsened by the events of the weekend’s result against Lazio.

Since then, Theo has apologised, stating his actions were not meant with any malice, and both players involved have been spoken to, so the road moves forward. On the road for the Frenchman, there is a planned pit-stop – contract talks.

As Calciomercato.com write, the left-back is still ‘fundamental’ to the club, and after closing the case this weekend, the next important thing is his contract. There will be no blockades in the talks, and face-to-face talks will begin in the next few weeks.

It is believed that Milan are ready to offer €6 million per season plus incentives – a €1.5m salary increase – but an official offer is yet to be made. Theo on the other hand wants €8m, so a compromise will be needed.

  1. Amazing that people here still think Gerry & Co know what they doing (for a footballing perspective)

They don’t even know who to hire and who to fire.

They are bankers. Of course they understand finance. Numbers have to follow rules. People do not.

Build the stadium (or dont) and go away

    1. Sadly he won’t leave until he has squeezed all the juice from the lemon. There is his stadium-theme park-mall-resort and now he has plans for IP and seems to have big plans for Serie A as well, so it’s not for soon 🙁

      1. You mean Boehly the American owner of Chelsea, also the LA Dodgers, who is trying to turn college football into a big super league to monetize it even more?

There is a great line in Red Dead Redemption II, which is a masterpiece and a critic of the US civilisation/capitalism at the turn of the 20th century: “It’s man so in love with greed, he has forgotten himself and found only appetites”.

          1. Same ol’ rhetoric to discredit some opinion that you don’t like. I’ve been in 36 US States, I lived and worked in Florida, Brooklyn and Los Angeles. I have many American friends. I watch the NFL. Do you also pledge allegiance to Wall Street at school?

          2. Rhetoric is an argument. I made an observation, a conclusion. If anything, your consistent diatribes are rhetoric. I didn’t dispute what you said. You can hate U.S./Americans AND also be right about Boehly. In any case, I rather agree with the RDRII sentiment.

          1. I don’t ask you if you have a poster of Trump.

Funny that in the morning (local time of Milan, Italy) the comments are bashing the management and in the afternoon some Americans arrive at the rescue of Jerry the Delaware patriot who invests in Italy. Thanks for your service 🫡

          2. I dunno that is has anything to do with it… anybody that doesnt realize AC mikan y a orivate business and as are all main football leagues.. they are “for profit” organizations…… this is a business to make money…

And please there are much better analogies to finance people than trump.. hes not even very good at it anyways….and anybody that critizices a finance people as not being fully intuned with operationa(futbol here) is fine and likely correct, doesnt mean hes a Che Gevara.

But yah Bart has a disdain for American in Futbol… and having friends doesnt mean anything.. you still have no respect for them in futbol and it why you live in stereotypes…amazing dissapointing by someone with world traveling experience..

          3. Alex if I learned something while traveling, it’s that some stereotypes are real haha I lived in Russia and they drink hard, in China and they are noisy. I am from France and we complain a lot. I live in Italy and they worship pasta. I enjoyed many aspects of the US culture, I find it amazing to have so many national parks, but I don’t like Wall Street predators so where’s the balance? Jerry happens to be American, Yonghong Li was Chinese, this has nothing to do with xenophobia.

          1. No, Elliott Management didn’t want Milan in the first place and they did acknowledge that they didn’t know anything in football and hired Maldini, Gazidis, Boban, Massara.

For the record, once again, I’m not anti US but I think it’s more comfortable to think so for some of our fellow brothers in arms around here. I was accepted at the University of Southern California but couldn’t go due to Trump and his foreign policy.

    1. No worries, everything is according to plan. Can’t do it nicely because fans love ’em? Discredit the punk to the point fans turn against him and then sell. It’s all politics. Got to get rid of previous management’s remnants so Gerry can sleep well out of Maldini’s shade.

      1. I understand your point of view, it’s possible to be like you said, but I personally have a tooth against Theo for a long time. Because he’s very inconsistent, he doesn’t give everything. He played one exceptionally game and after that he plays 5-6 average performance games. I don’t like this kind of engagement.
