There is now a team who have come forward and shown a concrete interest in signing Alessio Romagnoli on a free transfer, a report claims.
Calciomercato.com reports how Romagnoli is no longer a guaranteed starter for the first time in his six-year career at Milan and hasn’t been since Fikayo Tomori arrived, first on loan and then in a permanent deal, and that is why it will not be easy for the Italian defender to get the playing time he wants.
In all probability, this will be his last season with the Rossoneri because there are no ongoing negotiations between Paolo Maldini, Frederic Massara and his agent Mino Raiola to extend his contract which is expiring in June 2022.
This is due in large part to purely economic reasons as his current salary is too much for the policy pursued by CEO Ivan Gazidis in the last two seasons. Romagnoli actually receives a salary of around €6m net per season at the moment, not the €3.5m a lot of places are reporting.
This is because of the fact that in the agreement stipulated in June 2018 former sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli agreed with Romagnoli’s then-agent Sergio Berti a four-year contract starting with a base of €3.5m and rising up to the current €6m.
Where might Romagnoli’s future be? Lazio have shown an interest in signing him and they are the team which he has been rooting for since he was a child, but Claudio Lotito does not seem willing to guarantee him the same salary he currently has at Milan.
