CM: ‘A constant concern’ – the data behind Bennacer’s recurring injuries

Ismael Bennacer has had a difficult few seasons, and this summer was an extension of this with him being shown the door at AC Milan. Whilst no move came to fruition, he will not feature for the Rossoneri for some time due to injury.

The last three words of that paragraph have been written all too much when it comes to Bennacer, and Milan are hurting because of it.

As Calciomercato.com write, it will take at least six weeks for the midfielder to recover from his latest injury – a calf muscle problem picked up during training – and perhaps, it could be even longer with tests yet to be conducted by Milan’s medical staff.

Since December 2020, the Algerian has missed over 400 days due to injuries – of course, the major one being the knee injury suffered in the Champions League against Inter which sidelined him for almost a year.

In that time, he has missed 65 matches for several different reasons. Twice, he has had hamstring problems, ankle and abductor issues once each, and he has had two operations, one on his foot, and the other for his aforementioned hamstring injury.

When Paulo Fonseca arrived, he was sidelined metaphorically, and that relationship now must be mended. Unfortunately for Bennacer, Fonseca, and Milan generally, that relationship must now be mended from the sidelines, literally.
