CM: Daniel Maldini gets an Italy call-up – the background on his summer Milan exit

Daniel Maldini continues to shine for Monza, and some further background has emerged regarding his AC Milan exit in the summer.

As Calciomercato.com write, Monza head coach Alessandro Nesta spoke about Maldini and praised his qualities: “Daniel is a special player, different from the others. He lacked a bit of continuity that he found here because now he always plays. I am happy with the call to the national team, he deserved it.”

Maldini has been called up by Luciano Spalletti for the Nations League games against Belgium and Israel. He will be the third member of his family to wear the Azzurri jersey after grandfather Cesare and father Paolo. Paolo Maldini’s last appearance for the blue team was on 18 June 2002, his father Cesare’s last on 13 October 1963.

Daniel Maldini certainly owes some thanks to Monza and their CEO Adriano Galliani because he has found a club that allows him to show his qualities and he has been supported in every way by them, after more inconsistent spells with Spezia and Empoli.

The playmaker rejected some offers that arrived from abroad during the summer because in his mind he wanted to go back to Monza, to finally get guaranteed starts in Serie A and ti even get a call up for the national team. It is a decision that proved to be a winning one across the board.

The choices made by Milan during the summer window have divided the fans who are looking at successful purchases but also players who left and are doing well. Daniel ended his love story with the Rossoneri because he needed to play consistently to continue growing.

Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani favoured a move to Monza for Maldini because of the respect and friendship that binds him to Galliani. He went there on a free transfer with a 50% resale clause, the same deal Marco Brescianini left on.

  1. Yeah, well, he is doing well at Monza (“shining”, it is said in this article), the team that seats dead last in Serie A with 3 points in six games.

There is an appropriate saying for this situation: “In the land of the blind, the one with one eye is the king.”

I wish Daniel Maldini all the best; but I never thought he had what it takes to play for Milan.

Congratulations on the call up for the Azzurri. I kind of doubt he’d have been called up if his last name were different, though. He is overrated due to his last name.

      1. Maldini > RLC…

I would have preferred this young talent, over a 6.2 foot guy that can only run like a rugby player who we pay 4M for god knows why…

    1. Not an elite player, saying that, I don’t think he is worse than RLC, at least he Excell at shooting exercise and tackling ability, he is still young he can improve unlike RLC and Reindjers or the American runner Musah

    1. So you basically want us to fail with Morata and Abraham so that we deeply regret it. Wow. You’re a “great” Milan fan! You might consider moving your support to a certain other team across town.

      1. the hedge fund fanboys are insane… Morata and Abraham can’t play every single minute and the minutes that RLC plays for Milan instead of Maldini, yeah it’s a huge blunder…

  2. Never ceases to amaze me. Even now that it took 6 games for the Italy coach to recognise the talent.

What exactly is Milan’s standard and how does one marry that with the likes of Brahim, Junior Messias, Rebic, Jovic, RLC, Chukwueze, Emerson Royal, Tomori and Calabria?

Milan standard is just the players you get used to seeing in the kit without thinking about it, and pretending that the banter era never happened, isn’t it?

Putting aside the reality that Maldini is a better ball striker and dribbler than anyone who has played for Milan for a long time.
