CM: Di Stefano remains Mayor of Sesto – why it is good news for Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

The hypothesis of AC Milan building a new home away from San Siro remains a distinct possibility after the recent Sesto San Giovanni mayoral elections.

Roberto Di Stefano will remain the mayor of Sesto San Giovanni as the vote was staged yesterday pitting Di Stefano against Michele Foggetta, and the former won by amassed 52.11 per cent of the votes compared to 47.89 for his opponent.

Calciomercato.com report that it was also an important result for Milan, because Di Stefano’s victory means that they can keep alive the possibility of building a new stadium in the region, specifically at the site of the former Falck steelworks, a project to which the re-elected mayor has always been open.

Foggetta, on the other hand, had made it clear that in case of victory, the priorities would be different and he would focus on other issues in the district. Now, though, Milan can continue to use it as leverage while Beppe Sala (the Mayor of Milan) tries to get the public debate process in quickly over the Cathedral project.

  1. He did the same thing sala did, he said whatever was needed to keep his job, now that he has it you watch all the red tape come out. I hope im wrong

    1. The difference bettween sesto san giovanni and san siro area are that one is an industrial area whereas the other is a metropolitan area of milan with far more considerations to make for the locals .
The mayor of sesto has a huge area that is currently empty and getting a huge football stadium would help redevelope the industrial area and be a monetary scoop for the city so i absolutely believe you are wrong as its far more in that areas interest to get the stadium project at least as i see it but obviously i might be wrong in that estimate. Getting the new stadium to sesto will most likely also help them lure other ventures more easily to that area so basically i see no reason why we would run into hurdles with them.
