CM: Di Stefano remains Mayor of Sesto – why it is good news for Milan

The hypothesis of AC Milan building a new home away from San Siro remains a distinct possibility after the recent Sesto San Giovanni mayoral elections.

Roberto Di Stefano will remain the mayor of Sesto San Giovanni as the vote was staged yesterday pitting Di Stefano against Michele Foggetta, and the former won by amassed 52.11 per cent of the votes compared to 47.89 for his opponent.

Calciomercato.com report that it was also an important result for Milan, because Di Stefano’s victory means that they can keep alive the possibility of building a new stadium in the region, specifically at the site of the former Falck steelworks, a project to which the re-elected mayor has always been open.

Foggetta, on the other hand, had made it clear that in case of victory, the priorities would be different and he would focus on other issues in the district. Now, though, Milan can continue to use it as leverage while Beppe Sala (the Mayor of Milan) tries to get the public debate process in quickly over the Cathedral project.
