CM: €15m investment to €40-50m man – Maignan the No.1 goalkeeper in Europe on form

By Oliver Fisher -

There is simply no doubting that Mike Maignan already looks like one of Milan’s best pieces of business in recent years, as he has adapted perfectly to life in Serie A.

Calciomercato.com writes that the best goalkeeper in Europe based on form, according to the statistics collected in the first part of the season, is currently Maignan. Gianluigi Donnarumma decided not to sign a new contract and instead to try a new experience at PSG, with some fearing Milan might feel the absence, but the opposite is true.

Milan paid €15m including bonuses to Lille for Maignan, and Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara seem to have secured a gem as the 25-year-old has increased his value exponentially to around the €40-50m mark. Their skill was to find the right replacement at the right price.

Only 3 goals conceded in the league and 3 in the Champions League against Liverpool, at an average of 0.58 goals conceded per 90, in the 7 matches played so far. He has saved 80% of the shots on target he has faced and has prevented 8.16 goals. He is the best in Europe, at least for now.

  1. According to French media, Dollarumma is unhappy at Paris, not only because he’s not playing a lot but also because he feels alone in Paris with no friends. Money can’t buy everything. Us we are happy with Maignan now.

    1. Raiola’s puppet deserves it fully. Could become Milan’s next legend with extremely high salary at his early 20s, but decided to leave for PSG to satisfy Raiola’s greedy lust.
Even so Donnarumma’s salary at PSG is not that large to sacrifice everything he had in Milan: his friends, lifestyle, top league’s top GK status, fan army’s love and even his brother’s 1m euro salary.
There’s a chance that PSG project may collapse one day when FFP guys start auditing their assets right after Qatar tournament. They are untouchable by UEFA until Qatar but who knows when rich Arab guys get tired of wasting money for UCL title they probably can never achieve.

  2. Wow…good job ! Oh wait don’t they used to say that Donnarumma is worth 65 M? oh actually that is his value right now. The funny part is that they wanna let us know that the debt is now 96.4 M and the only way to lower that debt is to build a new stadium. I wonder where they wanna build it and how good the project is going to be if the only ownership’s goal is to sell all his asset in few years at best. Meanwhile De Laurentiis with a stadium built in 1959 manage to profit almost every year and keep his club always competitive, why? I don’t know, but I’ve never seen this 72 years old man giving for free a player worth 65 M.

  3. Perfectly happy with Maignan. We have a player that wants to be at Milan and is showing it on the pitch. We have the best goalkeeper in Europe. I care not to hear about Donnarumma or comparing them. Maignan is playing, and at a very high level. Donnarumma is sitting on the bench elsewhere, no longer our problem. Forza Maignan.

  4. He obvioualy is doing great but by those starts, he can only be called the best in Europe.

Mendy, the Chelsea golly is diffinately proving too much for anyone to ignore in Europe.

He is the best at the moment.
