CM: Empoli youngster is a possible Diaz replacement for Milan

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan could turn to Empoli’s Tommaso Baldanzi in the summer if they are not able to keep Spanish midfielder Brahim Diaz at the club, a report claims.

As has been reported by Calciomercato.com, the Empoli attacking midfielder has continued to impress a number of bigger clubs and Milan are one of them.

Given his profile and expected availability in the summer, there is a school of thought that Milan could replace Diaz with Baldanzi if a deal cannot be struck with Real Madrid to sign Diaz on a permanent basis.

The supposed fee for Milan to sign Diaz is €22 million but Real Madrid are not beholden to that figure and have the right to ask for more, which is very likely. They also may wish to use him as a makeweight in other transfers of their own.

That leaves Milan in need of a creative midfielder and Baldanzi, whilst a risk, could prove a smart signing. Inter and Napoli are also linked.

  1. Please milan buy him asap and then let it go brahim to madrid. Too expensive 20m for player who up and down performance. Last match he cant contribute goal or assist. He played too sloppy…

    1. Not many player can contribute goal or assist every game lol. Remember that Diaz is one of the main reason we get to UCL semifinal.

  2. What exactly has he done? When he pkay against us he was so ordinary. There’s nothing special about this lad. Not that he can’t be in the future,.just as a caveat but I doubt. Reminds me of when Pobega was at Spezia and hailing him as the next Kessie

    1. Only the people who were emotionally hurt by Kessie leaving and went overnight from loving him to hating him were talking up Pobega as the next Kessie. The rest knew who he was.
When it comes to Baldanzi, you keep talking about the 1 game against us. Who judges a player based only on 1 game?
The kid has a talent. He might not be ready right away to start at Milan but Milan isn’t in a position to wait until players blossom fully and then buy them. By then they’ll be too expensive. That’s why Milan has to take risks and sign players before they reach their pick.
For the right price Milan should absolutely sign Baldanzi this summer, and even leave him on loan at Empoli for 1 more season.

      1. Agreed. The last guys signed from the likes of Empoli and Brescia have worked out OK. If the scouts trust this one is in the same bracket, then by all means

      2. I based it in on what he would do vs a big team. He didn’t look great. I also saw him in other games, same thing. But I did say he could be something in the future. It’s funny you say we can wait for them to blossom but want to ship him out on loan as soon as he arrives when in reality Milan really can’t be playing that waiting game. We did for three years with Brahim and look how that turned out. There are low cost established players that you can find. Btw what your right price for him? 15m? 5m?
