CM: Fenerbahce set to beat two competitors to AC Milan defender

By Oliver Fisher -

Fenerbahce are expected to make a formal offer for AC Milan defender Ricardo Rodriguez in the coming days, a report claims.

The Swiss international has ambitions of starting for his country at next year’s European Championships but has lost his place in the Milan starting XI to Theo Hernandez, leading to suggestions he may seek new pastures in January.

According to Calciomercato.com, former head coach Gennaro Gattuso is interested in bringing him to Napoli, while various Bundesliga clubs like Schalke 04 are also considering a move.

However, in the last few hours it is Turkish side Fenerbahce that have accelerated their pursuit in the 27-year-old, and the outlet claims that their interest is ‘very concrete’.

The agent of the former Wolfsburg man had direct contact with the Fenerbahce leadership 12 days ago.

A formal offer is expected in the coming days after positive talks, however the player for his part is focusing on Sunday’s game against Atalanta during which he will be a starter again for the first time in almost three months due to Hernandez’s suspension.

If Milan were to allow him to leave next month, they would have to collect at least €6-7m to avoid a capital loss in the balance sheet.
