CM: Gourna-Douath, Cardoso and more – the targets as Moncada plots midfield move

The midfield was an area of interest for AC Milan throughout the summer, and it appears that this interest will continue with Geoffrey Moncada being ‘called upon’ to find midfield reinforcement.

Throughout last season, Milan’s issues seemed to stem from the midfield, with the Rossoneri struggling in many ways. On too many occasions, Stefano Pioli was entrapped in a vicious cycle of having no depth in his midfield, which affected the quality, which affected performances. Of course, one affects the other, and it creates real problems.

Therefore, when the midfield was stated to be an area to be targeted in the summer mercato, it was no shock, and the Diavolo added Youssouf Fofana to their ranks. However, Calciomercato.com have suggested that the additions in midfield may not be done yet.

As suggested by the report, Paulo Fonseca believes Milan ‘should never be a finished product’, and with the change in formations, there may be a need for new profiles in the middle, meaning Moncada is being called into action.

Moncada is yet to decide what profile to target, and there is still a lot of time to decide, but it is suggested that it will be either a midfielder ‘capable in transition’ or capable of building play like a ‘vice-Fofana’.

Carney Chukwuemeka is once again a name of interest, and he ‘would like a change in January’, elsewhere Lucas Gourna Douath and Johnny Cardoso are realistic options. Samuele Ricci is becoming less likely after a great start to the season which has seen his evaluation ‘skyrocket’.

  1. If they won’t sign a clear upgrade then better to just save those pennies they’d he willing to spend. None of these 3 has any wow effect about them..

  2. Out of the 3 it’s either Cardoso or add Ricci to the list, half-a$$ing gets us RLC, Ballo-Toure and Origi type of players, we need quality now!

Add also J.David and with these 4 North American stars, we should be making a lot of money there with merch and summer friendlies!

  3. Hard to say if journalists extrapolate but it seems in line with the policy. Now that Ricci is a good player, he’s no longer under consideration. And some US dude to keep the focus on the US market. Aight.

      1. we are getting 50M from Colombo, Vasquez, Kalulu, Pobega, Adli, Brescianini (re-sale clause) deals… Also Bennacer and RLC can give you minimum 50M… and whatever we get for Saelemakers…

How is 100M not enough for Tammy (expires in 2026), J.David (expires in 2025), Ricci (expires in 2026), Kayode (benched by Fiorentina this season for some reason…)?

          1. RLC is 20M player and with Pioli at Saudi you can get 30M, definitely not his release clause but hefty sum can be acquired. heck, take even half of that, 10M and 15M you still have 75M, which is way more than the 4 players I mentioned need. with these changes we would have at least cover for every starter player and 3 extras…

          2. In FM maybe. But the fact is that no clubs were willing to pay anything for them last summer and I highly doubt that next summer is any different.

        1. If I could sign theee players it’d be Scalvini, Bellanova and Ricci.

Those three are the missing pieces in my opinion.

          ———————-Maignan
          ————Scalvini—Gabbia—-Tomori
          Bellanova——Ricci—Reijnders——-Theo
          ——Pulisic———Tammy———Leao

3-4-3 takes some defensive duties away from Leao. It’s balanced and has natural triangles. You can also use Pulisic or Liberali as a trequartista in it as well behind two strikers.

  4. So we won’t go for the best one there and the one we really need ‘Rocco’ because he’s had a good season and we can’t afford him…. That’s how we ended up with average tat in the first place.

Surely a lot depends on formation too? Or are we just going out buying what we can get for 15m than what we need…..

Ricci and Reijnders could be a world class pairing

  5. Why all the Chelsea rejects? Taking players from a team that consistently does poorly is not improving Milan. Pulisic was at Chelsea when they won the UCL but not all the players being mentioned were part of that squad or starters like he was. At least pick from the Real Madrid academy like with Theo or Brahim Diaz.
