Grimaldo

Bayer Leverkusen are having a fantastic season so far as they sit top of the Bundesliga, and one of their star players might just be a regret for AC Milan.

Grimaldo is having a sensational start to life at Leverkusen as he has five goals and five assists in 12 appearances across all competitions so far.

Calciomercato.com recall that the Bundesliga club signed him on a free transfer, leaving Napoli, Inter, Juventus and Milan empty-handed.

All four Italian clubs had him in their viewfinder at different times but admittedly when he was a bit more expensive, given Benfica had inserted a €40m release clause into his contract.

The Rossoneri evaluated him as a possible deputy for Theo Hernandez, but the Spanish player – risking being denied playing time – preferred to look elsewhere.

Inter and Juve looked at him in recent months, but they made different choices and time will tell whether they have been correct or not.

The fact remains that in the goal machine named Bayer Leverkusen (they have scored 48 goals after just a quarter of the season), Grimaldo is shining.
