CM: How much a Kalulu-Juventus sale would change Milan’s mercato plans

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan could need to think on their feet towards the end of the summer transfer window as Juventus are attempting to sign French defender Pierre Kalulu.

As reported by Calcimercato.com, selling Kalulu to Juventus would change the general plan for the final two weeks of the transfer window from a Milan perspective.

It was reported earlier on Monday that the Bianconeri are trying to loan Kalulu for one season and have an option to sign him permanently next summer, and Milan’s response is not yet clear.

They are not closed off to the idea of losing Kalulu, but they would much rather sell him outright rather than agree to a loan. The middle ground would presumably be a loan with an obligatory purchase, rather than an option.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan would not necessarily need to buy a replacement for Kalulu and could use the money elsewhere.

There is a feeling that Fikayo Tomori, Strahinja Pavlovic, Malick Thiaw and Matteo Gabbia would be enough at centre-back.

That being said, any opportunistic moves that appear at the end of the transfer window can’t be ruled out and Milan would be in a position to act. The primary focus is still on a central midfielder.

  1. Milan needs a back up for Theo at LB.
Terraciano or Jimenez are not it.
I don’t know what Terraciano is but he isn’t a full back, especially not a LB.
Jimenez is very good going forward but he can’t defend a statue.
They need to bring in a LB that will be able to give Theo a breather. Since Theo started getting called up for the French NT, he basically plays with no breaks and that has had a big effect on his performances over the last 2 years. He is exhausted.
A serviceable LB should be a must before August 30th.

    1. Agreed and particularly as to this season re Theo. I fear this will either be a slow year for Theo or one in which he suffers from injuries. We’re not prepared for if and when he does.

  2. What money? with 3 million they can lick a lollipop. And next year for 14 million they will bring someone new Balo Toure. Gifting a player to a direct competitor (because his price next season will be 30 million) is for Guinness. Now that we’ve changed the coach and the medical staff, there won’t be any silly injuries. Milan, you rush like geese in the fog.

  3. Swap deal for djalo would be nice kalulu is very injury prone and isn’t good anymore, while djalo is on sale, knows fonsesca from Lille, is good when given a chance. I honestly think that would be a good idea (ac Milan management isn’t smart enough to think of this)

  4. Lol 14 mil for Kalulu is a joke… first we won’t have a decent backup for CB position we only have Tomori and Pavlovic if one of them gets I injured who is gonna play? Theo again? We already lost Simic and Kjaer if he really wants to leave sell him for at least 20 mil and get another defender… loaning him to Juve would be ridiculous.

    1. the deal is done and he asked to go. Selling him for such a low fee is like swapping him for Emmerson…so he better pan out because Kalulu can strengthen a direct rival, a lot.

  5. I am a big Kalulu fan. More so than the coaching staff and management.

He fell to 5th CB option after Tomori, Thiaw, Gabbia and Pavlovic, and 3rd RB position to Calabria and Royal. His best position is RB with a back 3, we don’t play that way. So the management is thinking getting 17M for a 20M (transfermkt) who just came back from and injury and is out of the lineup as not a bad deal.

That only becomes true if that $ is reinvested, with another sale in probably Adli/ Probega, into a top DM/ 30M+ type player.

    1. Totally agree, I like his style, how he defends and his speed, but after 2 injures last seasson, he needs long path to go back on track, like when he was playing together with Tomori in starting 11… and it is not good for him to be 5th and 3th options, If he play together 250 minutes in whole seasson, for him is better to go elswhere…

  6. This management is clueless

Why would you agree to a meager loan of 3M with OPTION to buy??? To a direct competitor??? With our luck Motta will turn him into a Calafiori. Terrible deal.

And if they don’t redeem the loan he returns to use at less value.

Getting Emerson (waste of 15M) sealed his fate. He saw he wasn’t going to play at RB or CB where he is behind everyone Emerson and Calabira and Thiaw Tomori Pav and Gabbia. So I get why he would want to leave. He’s actually better to have as a CB in a PRESS system that we are playing over Gabbia who is too slow.

IF we have to sell – then sell outright for 20M + with a % of resale. Juve is desperate – not us. So sell high IF we have to and he wants to leave. But NO way to a loan. That’s doesn’t help us now and only helps Juve.

    1. We are sorting of desperate, we have two more players than we can register and we have no sales this summer.

I sort of hope this isn’t the deal as it seems very favourable to Juve, but I do understand why they’d consider it. I’d rather it was a dry loan than including an option though.

    2. Yea valid point. With Emerson now there he’s a bit caught in not man’s land. He’s not starting for either of his positions. And at Thai stage in his career he needs playing time

  7. It is a done deal from some media outlet.
I think it’s a big mistake for such a low figure.
I would only understand to finance other starting CB. I would love so see Hummels at Milan, we need more experience players and his ability to play the ball from the back would be key for the way Fonseca play.
None of our CBs is particularly good with the ball, with Tomori and Gabbia being particularly poor.

    1. If its an option to buy it would be foolish – agreed. If its an obligation to buy, its not a bad move. I read reports that say both.

  8. It’s a done deal. Loan for 3.5 millions with option for further 14 millions and additional 3 millions in bonuses. Should Juventus decide to buy him out Milan will retain a 10% sell-on clause.

This keep getting better and better from Gerry and The RedTurds. First we get our new no9 and now this? Gerry’s cooking.

  9. I can understand why he might want leave. There is a lot of competition for him. But he can occupy multiple positions in both back 4 or back 3.

It would have been interesting to see Kalulu tried as a DM in preseason.

  10. They’re all reporting now that it’s a done deal. Kalulu to juve. #1 I don’t like selling to a direct rival and #2 we should have got more out of it. I understand he’s injury prone and hasn’t been good at all, fonseca must’ve said something because he went from being a potential rb to not even getting minutes in pre season

    1. “#2 we should have got more out of it. I understand he’s injury prone and hasn’t been good at all…”

LOL. How much more should we have gotten from it? 3.5M and then a further 14M to make it permanent, plus 3M in bonuses plus 10% resale. Potentially 20.5M for a player who we paid 500K for, is 5th choice CB, 3rd choice RB and in your words “he’s injury prone and hasn’t been good at all”. How much more did you want? 50M plus Vlahovic? People are nuts!

      1. Fair point Vero but we will likely need a replacement, and Kalulu covers a variety of roles. Not easy to bring in someone as good. Emerson can in theory play CB but he’s really a full back.

So at CB we have Pavlovic and Tomori as first choice, with Thiaw and Gabbia in reserve. Given Pellegrino, Simic and Kalulu have now gone, we probably need one more.

Maxime Lecroix (I know, I can’t spell) would be good and affordable.

        1. Bartesaghi.

For all the gnashing of teeth about Kalulu leaving (I’m personally bummed, but I get it), we seem to forget that we have Barts for 5 choice CB, Terraciano for 3rd choice RB , etc

That, and we need.to trim the roster _while_ he has value, so we don’t end up with YAO (yet another Origi)

      2. This!
Kalulu had like 3 good months towards the end of the 21/22 season, and people act like he is worth 30-40 million.
20 mil is actually more than he is worth.
Over the last 2 years, he has been either bad, benched, or injured. His value has plummeted. From a starter, he is now the 5th CB in the pecking order and the 3rr RB.
Selling to a direct rival?!? No disrespect to juve, but I’m not worried about them.
        Juve squad is a*s cheeks.
I like Motta, but we will see how he adjusts to coaching every 3 days. At Bologna, he had to prepare for only 1 game a week. At juve life comes at you fast. A game every 3 days, guaranteed thru December at least.
Outside of inter, the only team that worries me is Napoli, for one reason only, they play once a week. And Conte is a demon when he has 7 days to prepare a team.

  11. Kalulu has been at Milan for four years. He’s had one good season. His contract expires at the end of this season. He’s not the second coming of Tassotti. Sending him on loan to a rival will be good for future business. I scratch your back, you scratch mine. In no reality is Kalulu worth €14 million. He’s barely worth €4 million.

  12. We wasted Kalulu playing him at CB. Would have been a different story at RB.
A real bummer, but as things stand one between him or Thiaw was going to leave.

  13. What a stupid desicion from Milan,im deep disapoited. This Fonseca will destroy everything what Pioli bring. Loan Kalulu is more stupid transfer so far what i see

  14. A loan with obligation to buy would make more sense. But maybe that simply separates between the deal will go thru or not. A bit hard to swallow but this is something we simply need to do. Offloading several of players while gaining some figures.

  15. Kululu under Motta gonna become the new Lilian Thuram just like Calafiori. Give them Calabria instead or at least have buy back clause.

  16. Another baffling decision by management.
Selling an excellent established player like Kalulu, a player we know has top level ability.
Essentially he is being pushed out for E. Royal

They have been trying to flog Thiaw, Bennacer and now Kalulu. Just shows these people have no interest in spending money unless they sell of another of our young scudetto winning champs.

So disheartening to be owned by these Redturds

  17. LOL. So… Juve are thinking about getting Kalulu and some people act as if Milan has already shipped the player to Turin. People do believe ANYTHING they read on the internet. 😀 😀 😀

  18. This is an absolute disaster. Not only do they have a low option but there’s no risk to them. this can only be seen as a win – win for Juve. They weaken a direct rival ans strengthen at no risk. Really dissapointed that Milan management are letting this go through.

    1. Strenghten? No risk? Did De Sciglio strenghten Juve? Nope. Neither will Kalulu. Kalulu hadn’t played well since the scudetto season’s last 3 months. You can’t keep living in the past.
