CM: Ibrahimovic eager to make return with Atalanta the protagonist again

By Oliver Fisher -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is yet to play a game this season but tonight could mark his return and a continuation of the fascinating story involving Atalanta.

Calciomercato.com recall how Atalanta’s 5-0 win over Milan in December 2019 still marks a low point in the club’s history for many but from there the team rose from the ashes, winning 2-0 against Atalanta the following season to secure a return to the Champions League and then by the same scoreline against the same opponent last May 15 to set the stage for the Scudetto win against Sassuolo the following week.

Milan desperately needed the charisma of Ibrahimovic when he rejoined in the winter of 2019-20 and now the Rossoneri are back in the Champions League knockout stages with a league title under his belt thanks to the mentality he imparted and the level which he raised.

However, he has not played since the last game of last season back on 22 May 2022 when he had a goal ruled out for offside in the 3-0 win against Sassuolo, undergoing knee surgery following the Scudetto celebrations.

Now he is back in the squad after a long recovery process and is ready to roar again. Zlatan loves the big occasion and the spotlight being on him, meaning tonight could bring the right opportunity for the grand return.
