AC Milan’s summer transfer strategy has had to pivot slightly after the injury to Marco Sportiello, and Loris Karius has apparently been offered to the management.
As Calciomercato.com confirm, Sportiello suffered a serious cut on his left hand while he was in a hotel with the team in New York. It is not yet clear whether surgery will be necessary or not, but he should be out for at least two months.
For this reason, a replacement will be needed, a goalkeeper ready in case of need, and the decision has been made despite Lorenzo Torriani’s positive displays in the preseason friendlies. Simone Scuffet of Cagliari is an option, who would cost around €3m.
Several names have been put forward to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, including Rui Patricio who was released by Roma, as well as Loris Karius who has also been without a team since July 1st when he left Newcastle United.
Milan’s choice could be influenced by the squad list factor, something that the management must keep in mind because of the Serie A and Champions League regulations.
An Italian goalkeeper could be prioritised in that sense, because at the moment the Rossoneri are one player short in both club-trained and Italian-trained players.
I really don’t see a reason to hire another backup. We have several replacements ready to cover Mike in case he gets injured as well, and Marco’s injury seems to be nasty but not long-term.
Rui would be a nice backup for a season but what kinda salary would he want? 3M net he got at roma is not an option. Maybe half that
To be fair I haven’t followed Karius as much of late but I know a lot of Liverpool fans probably still has nightmares about him so I would be weary seeing him even on our bench.
A goal keeper i actually like in Serie A is Savic that dude is freaking huge but I doubt he would accept a role as a backup and a potential signing probably should be for the short term so maybe bringing back Plizzari would make sense as he would also solve some quota issues. He probably would fit the bell as he is a technical gifted player that would be able to distribute the ball quickly with his feet.

another 1 year contract for Mirante, thats a no-brainer. He knows the team, was always reliable, cost just a little salary and we cant waste a non-italian spot on a 3rd GK.
Or a contract till the end of 2024 so no one would lose their place once Sportiello is back. Win-win.
They could place one of the boys as 3rd all the time. The day Sportiello is fine again, they can place Mirante on 4th, 5th, send on holiday, whatever. He wouldnt complain. its just important to not have two kids without any senior experience on the bench. every time Maignan goes down (and thats multiple times per game) the team would go nervous, which would negatively impact the performance, even if Maignan would manage to do without an injury for the next 3 months.

It is modern cardinale milan time. Less italian means more modern. Better get free foreign player like karius or patricio or de gea. Free mean cheap. No need to think twice.
