CM: Kalulu’s role at Milan for next season not yet clear – loan exit cannot be excluded

One player who will be looking to build on his excellent first season at the club is Pierre Kalulu, but there are some question marks on his role.

Kalulu participated in the Olympic Games with France, but Les Bleus disappointed as they finished third in a group with Japan, Mexico and South Africa and were eliminated. The defender played all three games from the first minute as a centre-back, with a different partner in each game that didn’t help matters.

Calciomercato.com writes that in the national team Kalulu was used in his natural role, while in the past season he represented a useful alternative as a right-back. The former Lyon man is trusted by the management and currently occupies the position of playing for fourth-choice centre-back with Matteo Gabbia, behind Simon Kjaer, Fikayo Tomori and Alessio Romagnoli.

Pioli could use him again on the right side but Milan are searching for a new right-back. The idea of sending him out on loan is an option for the moment that is not even being remotely considered, but if Dalot were to return this path could also open up.
