CM: Key factor favours Milan as talks continue over Serbian midfielder

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are still working hard to sign Serbian midfielder Lazar Samardzic this summer and there is one key factor that suggests the Rossoneri will get the deal over the line.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, the most important element for Milan when it comes to trying to find a deal with the player and Udinese is that Samardzic really wants to sign for the Rossoneri, and has made that clear to his entourage and the Friulians.

That added pressure on Udinese from the player puts Milan in a position of strength when it comes to negotiations. Udinese want €25m and Milan have so far bid €15m. Udinese would be willing to see players like Davide Bartesaghi or Kevin Zeroli included in the deal, but Yacine Adli and Tommaso Pobega have no interest.

There will be more meetings in the coming weeks to try and agree a deal for the player who matches the transfer philosophy set out by Gerry Cardinale: He is young (2002), has scope to get even better and already knows Serie A.

Milan have had plenty of phone calls with the agent and father of Samardzic to agree on personal terms. Milan are working on the basis of a five-year deal with a greater salary than the €500,000 per season he earns at Udinese, and €5m as a commission to the father.

    1. So one of Pulisic or 28M Chukwueze who is beginning to play well to the bench then? Pulisic can play as the AM. RLC can play as the AM. Reijnders can play as the AM. If Fofana or another DM arrives as well as Samardzic, and assuming Benny is the other player in the double pivot, we’ll have Reijnders, RLC, Musah, Pobega and one of Pulisic or Chukwueze on the bench. That’s an expensive bench. Unless two of these players are sold, why do we need Samardzic?

        1. Whether that’s true or not, it still ignores that fact that we have multiple midfielders that can play in that position and that we’ve spent ~80M on them over the past couple of seasons. This is more a budget thing than anything else. We’re currently struggling to sign Fofana, a type of player we REALLY NEED. Why go spending on a player where we have such depth? Sure, we can try to sell RLC and/or Reijnders, but changing players in a specific position every season is a terrible idea too. We’re not Chelsea, buying a new player for position X every season only to finish mid-table.

    2. Oh and we have this guy from the primavera called Liberali, not sure if you’ve heard, but he’s been impressing lately at the tender age of 17. Would stacking yet another player in front of him be the best idea?

      1. He’s been great but playing in summer friendlies against the youngsters of other teams isn’t the same as competitive first team football. He needs to develop with the Futuro outside of San Siro pressure and bright lights.

        1. Sure, but you’re ignoring that Liberali is like 4th in the depth chart. I just mention him because he can be used in a pinch and because is he’s as good as he looks, at 17, then in the next couple of years he should be given more first team minutes. This won’t happen if there are four AMs ahead of him. He’ll then be sold and then people will complain we sell all of our talented Italians.

  1. good thing the mercato is in it’s final month, so either the deals need to be completed quickly or not be completed at all, so these news are coming to an end.
