CM: Kjaer has become Milan’s captain without the armband – the plan for his renewal outlined

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan defender Simon Kjaer put in a fantastic battling performance despite the fact the team conceded three times against Liverpool.

As Calciomercato.com reports, Kjaer used his experience to close down Mo Salah and keep the Egyptian quiet, while his physique and tactical acumen came in handy to limit Divock Origi. It served as yet another confirmation of how much the 32-year-old is a leader on the pitch in terms of his experience but also his performances.

The report describes him as the ‘captain of Milan without the armband’ and a player that Pioli wants to continue to build around. Directors Ricky Massara and Paolo Maldini are also of the same opinion and they have started the first contacts with the agent of the former Roma man to renew his contract which expires next June.

The current thought is a two-year extension with slightly higher salary than the current amount, and what remains to be seen is if it is a one-year extension with an option or a direct agreement until 2024. The one certainty though is that Milan want Kjaer to continue to be their leader.

  1. Calabria is too young and does not have such experience to assume the armband. I am proud that a young Milanista is the captain but it is too early I guess.
